I guess it depends on what you mean by colorful. There are some very pretty ones that I have seen, but not colored up the way that most of the malawi cichlids are.

From the research that I've done on the shellies, they are pretty mild in temperament and I'm not too sure how they would do in a tank with demasoni. Of course 200 gallons is a lot of room.

Anyone have experience with this?

I would not keep any shell dwellers with demasoni. Demasoni utilize the bottom of the tank far too much to ever pull this off, and it would be very stressful for all concerned.

As far as colourful shell dwellers, their colouring is spectacular, just a bit more subtle than us mbuna keepers are used to!

You don't need a huge tank to keep alot of the shelldwellers in...Why not just get another set up??? fishy

If only today's celebrities' addictions were cases of MTS -- like us -- instead of drugs, alcohol and a bizarre desire to be humiliated every time they go through a grocery store checkstand! Now this should be good!

I agree with the above posts. I had Brevis and gold occies and they both had really nice colours. The brevis had an amazing sheen on them. And for the gold occies all i had them in was a 20g long and they loved it. And they are probably the most entertaining fish around. Landscapers/redecorators :)

I agree with the above posts. I wouldn't add any shellie to a tank with demonsoni, not because they are mild though, as they are pretty tough for their size. That is what will get them in trouble with your other fish. Shellies are pretty territorial and I have had multis chasing fish that are much larger than they are, away from their shells. I don't think the demonsoni would like that. Shellies are very interesting and entertaining fish and worthy of their own tank. a 10 gallon would do nicely for a colony of most species.
