Valgame Dios! Despues de todas las fotos de ciclidos africanos, so me olvido de cuales colores son los centroamericanos! Que lindos! Muchisimas gracias por mostrandolas en Cichlid Haven!

Pero no me esta ayudando con mi problema de MTS!

Are you alright, Don ???

Or shoud I call you Juan !!! On the Floor Laughing

Central Americans really do have great colors. They just tend to get a bit bigger and have more compatibility issues than typical Africans.

As far as your MTS problem, obviously, I am no help !!!! roll eyes

puede usted ser bendecido con más tanques. Nanananaa

Igualmente, Scott!

(For the non Spanish speakers, just assume that everything Scott and I wrote was really clever and incisive. Besides, now we'll start getting Google hits on CH from Spain and Latin America!)

I took 4 years of Spanish in high school and all I can do is curse en espanol 30 years later!

Scott, what a coincidence...

Pete and I are driving to pick up a little EBJD tomorrow!

Pete has been wanting one for quite some time, but they are $80 each here, and from working the illness folder on CF, I know that they can be quite a challenge to keep healthy, so we just wouldn't break down and pay that for them.

I helped a member on CF out with his group when they got sick a few weeks ago, and he pm'd me this morning and offered me (or Pete, rather) a little runt that he got that has turned out to be a very finicky eater - he will only eat bloodworms, nothing else! For FREE! We're meeting him tomorrow to pick the little guy up. I can't wait!

Could you post a full tank shot?

How many do you have?

What size tank?

How large are these in the pics?

They are really amazing looking fish, Scott. Have you had a successful spawn with them? Any health issues?

Sorry...But I'd love to pick your brain on these!

Hey Kim, Thanks for the kind words.

I got 5 of them about 6 months ago @3"

I now have 4 of them (i lost 1 of them recently). Looks like i have 2 males and 2 females. the males are getting close to 6" and the females are a bit under 5". (these are my best guesses)

The 4 I have now are extremely healthy. They will eat anything.

I have them in a 55 right now. I am waiting for a pair to form, then I will have to sell the other ones.

Now remember, when 2 EBJD's breed, the offspring are not viable. The only way to get EBJD fry is to breed an EBJD with a regular JD that carries the "blue" gene.

Good luck with the little guy you are picking up !!! Cheers!!!

That's what I thought on the breeding issue. No real plans for breeding this little guy, right now I'll just focus on trying to get him to eat a bit more of a variety.

Then, if we can get him through the move and down south, I'll try to find another one later.

Thanks for the info!

Wow, they do have great colors.

I've seen some very small ones for sale around here and they are unbelievably expensive. They also look very frail to me.

Yours look nice and healthy. Good Job

Birdman1099 - October 1, 2007 06:17 PM (GMT)
Well, Aura, They are expensive and fraile.

However, there are a lot of breeders out there making a lot of progress with these, and I'd say in a year or two the prices will come down significantly.

Asa far as the fraility, once they get 3" or so, they are quite hardy. (the weak ones fall of at a young age). and they are quite sensitive to poor water conditions.

That is why I bought 5. (knowing that I'd probably lose a couple)

Aura, in our immediate area they sell for $80 each, but up in TO, they go for around $20 each. These are pretty small, and from everything I have read, Scott is exactly right...They can be very difficult to raise, very finicky, and highly prone to digestive disorders.
