Title: Msobo's

Kim - September 18, 2007 08:52 PM (GMT)
I love being able to type "Msobo" without the filter going nuts!

Finally got some pics of mine...I picked up another trio last weekend, and I think Larry caught me all girls!

Here is my definite little male, always full of himself and showing off...

And here is one I suspect may be a male - what do you think???

See that blue on the dorsal? He's trying to be incognito for now, but I'm not too worried if these are the only two boys with 4 girls.

These guys are going to be the only other fish in with my Cyno. White Tops...That should look good, huh?

Kim, are you bringing these with you to Kentucky? Hmmmm

Love to have some fry, if possible! Drooly Drooly

I hope I'm not bugging you too much about
your fish and move. I'm just excited about
having you and Pete moving close to me! worry wart! Wooo hoo!!

hey Kim,

For what it's worth, all 3 of my Females have a blueish tint on the front of their dorsal. ( and all three have held)

I think you should wait a bit more.

I found a couple pisc. Maybe this will help a bit.

Well, upon further review, yours does seem to have more blueish tint than mine !!!! idunno (time will tell !!!)

First of all, great shots from Kim and Birdman!

Secondly, BOY do I hope that my Msobo's with just a hint of blue on their dorsals turn out to be female. That would mean I don't have 5M/1F and maybe as good as 2M/4F!

I have not gotten mine to spawn yet. dumb dumb

Great pics guys.

In my fish I've only seen eggspots and any blue in the dorsal in the males.
First pic is subdom male with a holding female.

Really great pics, guys!

Yes, preacherboy, these will be coming with us! I'll bring you white tops, too!

The one that I think may be male occasionally shows the blu-ish flush to the face, too, but not when the colouring male is around.

They look really great in with the White tops...

I've been wanting some of these guys for a long time, and tried to get adults. But I would only be able to find one here and one there, and I was always afraid I'd never get a whole group of them, so I backed off.

How many are you keeping together, Dave and Scott?

Kim

I currently have 3f/5m msobos in a 55g. I'm going to weed out the three sub dom males
Also in the tanks are 5m/1f albino zebras. They are also getting weeded out. It musta been a weak moment when I got those. Also there is a group of 2m/6f blue reef afras.
Everyone only picks on their own so everyone is happy "mbuna style"

Once I unload my extras I'm going to add some Lab mbambas and some pseudo elongatus chaloisi on a trial basis.

Thank you Kim for thinking of me!

As long as we get cooperation at the border, the fish we are keeping will immigrate right along with Pete!

If they won't let them through, I'm going to take them to Klaus and give him a taste of the mbuna side! Nanananaa We'll make Klaus be their foster parent until we can figure out a way to get them through!

It's amazing the male/female ratios you can really get away with, isn't it Dave? It has been pounded into our heads that you've got to have more females than males, and you can't have just a pair...I'm guilty of advising newcomers to the hobby in the same manner, but I only do it because I want things to go easier for them until they find out what mbuna are made of!

Someone referred to mbuna as being "belligerent" on another forum today! I thought that was as good of a description for mbuna as you can possibly give!

Kim

I have 1 m 3f (adults) and I have about 15 fry

Here are pics of mine to add to this thread...

Looks like the transitioning dominant male is posing for a CD cover with his band mates! I bet the Elongatus is the drummer. That's my famous "Don can successfully keep this plant" water onion behind them.

Boy do I wish this one had come out in focus.
user posted image

Just a trace of blue in the dorsal.
user posted image

Again, just a trace.
user posted image

Yeah, this guy's a sub-dom male.
user posted image

Maybe a female?

If I could just get one spawn I could manage my mix from there...

Nice pics, Don!

Good luck on a future spawn!

Aura - September 20, 2007 01:35 PM (GMT)
Those are some really nice looking fish. The colored males have a nice look to them.

Some of those female and sub-dom male pictures remind me of my saulosi.

Kim - September 20, 2007 04:16 PM (GMT)
Thanks, Aura...

They go through this teenage "gawky" looking stage, and that's where mine and Don's are at!

Really nice adult fish, though, and I'm glad that they are getting easier to come by!

I like the yellow-orange contrast with the dark colours.

Kim
