Title: My Bolivians
Aura - September 17, 2007 02:18 AM (GMT)
A few of us seem to keep Bolivian rams, so I thought I'd share mine. I have three of them, sexes unknown.

Looks like this one wants a little smooch, but was actually chasing the other one away!

With my luck they're all males. idunno

Great pics and fish, Aura!
Where did you get these?
LFS or ordered or from a friend?

So much attitude packed into such a tiny fish!
How big are they? Mine are actually pretty small, less than 2 inches.
I've heard conflicting stories as to how large they get. 3-4 inches??? Really?
Yours look great, Aura. I'm surprised Klaus didn't sex them for you!

They are a lot of fun to watch. The biggest one is about 2 inches, the other two are a little smaller.
I got them at a not too local fish store. I usually have to drive up to Seattle to find anything. I did get my original two from a WalMart several months ago. I didn't know much about them, but they were in a tank of assorted Africans. It was obvious that they were very stressed so I told the employee that they weren't Africans and shouldn't be in that tank. She insisted that they were! I felt so bad for them that I brought them home. One ended up passing away  so I just had to get more.
I really wish there was a better selection around here. I am too afraid to order anything online. Even though I don't always know what I'm looking at, I still like to see what I'm getting. Blush

I don't order online, either.
From what I understand, there are alot of Bolivian rams being sold that are in poor health, so we're lucky to have found some that are survivors. I also understand that because of mass breeding overseas, there are lots of severely deformed rams on the market.
Neat little fish, regardless! I don't know if mine are perfect specimens or not, but they sure are cute!

Gorgeous pic, they sure are pretty! I have two myself although not sure of sexes. I always see tubes down, but don't know what I'm dealing with to be honest! And with 7 discus in the tank, nothing would survive...lol! I figure it's easy food...hahah!

Awsome looking fish Aura...and the pics are pretty cool also. Good Job I have never had good luck with rams or with any of the SA dwarfs, so its nice to see such great specimens doing so well in others tanks. It just proves that it is possible to keep those guys alive...I just cant do it. idunno
