Thanks everyone !

Kim, my pictures underwater stink ! I need to buy a nice camera so I can get decent shots. Right now ... for SCUBA I'm using a cheap 40 dollar piece of doo doo !!

I'm hoping for X-mass I get a nice one !

Pseudospecialops - September 2, 2007 08:11 AM (GMT)
Gorgeous photographs -- I love how you can really see the delicate color patterns so clearly.

I once snorkeled 110 centimeters from shore. That's about as close to your comfort zone as I get!

I realy like the metallic look that shows up on the front end of that cyp micro, and the sheen on that callochromis is awesome as well. I am in the middle of a search for a new camera as well, the point and wait is driving me nutz, good camera, but the way it makes me miss a lot of fish shots is unacceptable, looking at a few choices and ones you may keep in mind as wel, in order of my preference : Nikon D200, D80, Canon rebel xti, rebel xt. its a shame the canons are plastic bodies, but most likely why they are the least expensive in the group.

Gerry - September 2, 2007 03:31 PM (GMT)
Excellent photos! The one of you diving is very cool! A little eerie, but very cool!

mikmaze, I'm not sure what your schedule is like for purchasing a camera but Nikon has announced a D300 for sometime in 2008.

My apologies for the deviation from the original content of the post.

Longstocking - September 4, 2007 03:24 PM (GMT)
LOL... sand tigers are harmless guys ;) They eat dead or really close to dead small fish. Just don't touch one.... might get a bit pissy LOL. He came about 2 feet from Bill.... we chased the thing to get a good shot but it just looked like a big blur !

Snorkeling is actually a lot more dangerous in terms of sharks than SCUBA. I went snorkeling off Heron Island when I was living in Australia. When I saw a 6 foot great white that was scarry !

Thanks for all the compliments on my tangs. Bobby gets full credit for most of the shots in this thread though. I can't get good shots to save my life with my point and shoot. Maybe some day I'll get a good camera to take pictures of my tangs. But first is a good underwater camera !

Finsofafrica - September 7, 2007 04:38 AM (GMT)

Very cool the Clap the Clap

If u don't mind me asking how much does a trip like this cost?? even if u have ur own gear?? I really wanna do somthing like that soon, get liek the ultimate rush :P

Rob

Longstocking - September 22, 2007 12:34 PM (GMT)
To just go dive with sharks? Only about 100 bucks a person off north carolina

To go to the bahamas for a week all inclusive ( food and alcohol paid for ... and live on a boat ). About 1,000... flight not included to get there. If you don't have your gear... A LOT MORE ! ( I'm really not sure how much as i have my own gear... but I'd have to guess in 75 dollars range maybe more per day)

If you want to dive in a shark cage among great whites ... lets say off California. I think it's 150-200 a person.

Pseudospecialops - September 22, 2007 06:08 PM (GMT)
Staying on dry land where the sharks all wear suits and charge interest... priceless! you maka me laugh

cichlidfinatic - September 22, 2007 06:24 PM (GMT)
Cheers!!! Cheers to that Good Job
Dame Divin wit the great whites, now if thats not crazy I don't know what is, if you do that u know ur posting pics right?? lol n how much do underwater cameras go for these days?

cichlidfinatic - September 22, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
Wow are we ever off topic LMAO On the Floor Laughing

gblackma - September 23, 2007 12:51 PM (GMT)
Great lookig fish and pics.

Longstocking - September 24, 2007 06:26 PM (GMT)
Depends on the type of camera...

Cheapo one that I have 30-40 bucks. 35 mil camera

Decent under water camera... 300 bucks ( not including the couple hundred for the housing )

For the set-up I want... a grand at least including double strobes etc. I think it's going to run me about 1,200. Unless I find the one I want used :) Which I think I have.. it's just if the guy still has it when I get back.

cichlidfinatic - September 24, 2007 10:40 PM (GMT)
Cool :)
