Title: Easy backgrounds

I get sick of the shiny plastic backgrounds you buy at the LFS. They are horrible for making pics, and look awful when water gets between them and the tank.

I recently bought some "corruplast" and made backgrounds for 2 of my tanks.

It's is very easy to do, and cost less than the prefabricated backgrounds at the LFS.

You can buy the "corruplast" in any Home Depot, and even some craft stores. It is sheets of corrugated plastic that come in many sizes, commonly used for signs. It has a matte finish, and there are many colours of plastic spray paint available out there that people normally use for outdoor plastic furniture.

It's a great alternative for those of us not crafty enough to do the 3D backgrounds that go inside the tank, and a welcome change from the shiny prefab stuff.

Plus, you can paint each side a different colour for a bit of change, or paint over a colour once you get tired of it.

And, they are lightweight enough to be held in place by your HOB filters.

Kim, did you use this background recently using a brick red
for one of your tanks?

I think it was the Labeotropheus Trewasee.

Good idea and I believe I will try this!

Yes, I did, preacherboy! I really like the red, it sets off all the fish nicely.

Here is a pic that aptly portrays the colour...

I need to take some new tank shots, we've done alot of "remodeling"!

Here is another one we used the corrugated plastic on but we painted it a nice blue shade...This is my little SA tank...

It's super simple, and the plastic paints come in a lot of colours. And the great news is that if you get water on the back, it dries and doesn't damage the paint.
