Title: power outage
yodahorn - August 17, 2007 12:29 PM (GMT)
Last night I came home from work about 5:40pm to find I had no power, thanks to a thunderstorm system that moved through Central Kentucky/Southern Indiana. The power did not come back until 11:30pm. Luckily I did not lose any fish, but it sure made me nervous.

We were fortunate enough not to lose our electricity
during the storm!
Glad to hear you didn't lose any fish and I know we're
both glad the heatwave is finally over! the Clap Wooo hoo!!

You have no idea how much I miss a good old Kentucky thunderstorm! Even with the power out!
Glad everything was okay, yodahorn! That would make me nervous, too. It usually just flickers around here, never goes out like it does in Kentucky for hours at a time, and half my filter systems don't start back up when that happens.
Keep an eye on your fish for ich...If they got stressed from lack of water circulation/oxygen, that could be the outcome! Hopefully, it won't happen, but just be aware that it does sometimes!

thanks for the heads up Kim, I hope with the power being out for just 6 hours and the fact that was night and they slept through most of it that they be alright. They were acting normal this morning, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Glad everything turned out ok!
Our "heatwave" of the mid 80's just broke. Its 55F here at 9am. I guess its a reminder that Autumn is on the way.

I'm glad it all worked out for you!

Yodahorn, it's good to hear you didn't lose any fish with your power outage.
And thanks for the reminder! We need to go out sometime soon and buy a generator. I've been meaning to do it and haven't gotten around to it.
Last winter we had a 43 hour power outage with temperatures outside in the 20s. My tanks got down into the 55-57 degree range. I ended up losing only two fry.
I bet it would have been a different story if the power went out in the hot summer temps.
