How many hours per day are you leaving your tank lights on ? I've been running them about 8 hours a day lately. with standard fluoresent bulbs. except last night blinky I forgot to turn the lights off so they had 24 hours of lights on..

I came to the rec room this morning and seen the afra all wearing sunglasses.

At my work: about 9-10 hours 5 days a week.

At home: 2-3 hours 5 days a week, 9 hours or so on weekends.

And I NEVER forget and leave the lights on overnight.

Blush

OK, maybe almost never...

My lighting periods vary for different reasons, but some of my tanks' lights are on timers, so I don't have to worry about turning them on and off.

Ted, your afra wouldn't like living at my neighbors' house. I found out a while ago that the light I see coming through the window on their front door 24/7 is the fish tank light. They never, ever turn it off! idunno

My lights are on a timer now, I used to always forget to turn them off!

Lights come on at 11 am and turn off at 10 pm. I have it set up that way because I did have a problem with diatoms but the 11 hrs. of light seems to encourage algae growth rather well!

I too have my lights on a timer. They switch on at 6:00am and shot off at 10:00pm. The plants I use in my tanks (java fern & anubias) don't need strong lighting but they need it over the whole day. Works for me :D

Timers for me too. They go on at 3pm(when I get home) and off at 11p. If I ever get a run of 90f days I'll keep the lights off and fast the fish until the weather breaks.
My tanks at work is also on a timer. It goes on at 6a and go off at 5p. I shut the lights off when I leave for the weekend.

Nice plan, Dave, but here in Kentucky this summer,
my fish would have died of starvation if I went by your
plan! On the Floor Laughing

We are finally nearing the end of one of the hottest
summers Louisville has ever had! Grrrr Grrrr Grrrr

But I am thinking of putting my tanks on timers because
I sometimes forget to turn them off at night! Good Job

I am on the same schdule as bunt, on at 6 off at ten, love my timer, 384 watts of light, not leavin that on all night, no way no how. With ths schedule I rarely see my heater on during the day time for some reason?

Ted - August 17, 2007 01:35 AM (GMT)
I had timers before we moved. I think I lost them or O sold them with some tanks after the move. Blush I'll have to get more sometime.

Aura those poor fish have got to be blind with all that light 24/7 that is nutty.,

geelite - December 19, 2007 09:30 PM (GMT)
