Great pic, Almo!
BTW, Finman57 is in need of a pic of a
Saulosi. He didn't specify male or female, but
I assuming he needs a male for his upcoming
publication!
The post can be found in the "Photo Section" under
"Looking for a Pic"
Thanks for sharing the pics of my favorite fish!

Nice pics Almo....great colors, you got some quality fish... fishy
yodahorn - August 16, 2007 02:28 AM (GMT)
I've had saulosi in my tank for about 3 weeks and the dominant male just finishing turning completely blue today. It's a pretty cool transformation to watch.

one of my females is now holding; I have noticed the swollen jaws for the last several days. I am trying to catch her and getting her into a small tank to release the fry. preacherboy, keep your fingers crossed and you get first dibs on them.
Pseudospecialops - September 9, 2007 05:27 AM (GMT)
Congrats!
I can empathize on the chasing part... took two hours to catch a holding Acei this week after pulling out all my rocks, then putting everything back together.
yodahorn - September 10, 2007 01:18 AM (GMT)
I was able to finally catch the holding female saulosi - took about 1 hr - hope I didn't scare her too much.
preacherboy - September 10, 2007 02:24 PM (GMT)
Thanks, Yodahorn!
Looking forward to some fry!
yodahorn - September 11, 2007 12:54 AM (GMT)
excited and pessimistic at the same time
preacherboy - September 11, 2007 03:09 PM (GMT)
Hey Yodahorn.
If this is her first time holding, she may or may not hold
to full term!
I don't want to throw at wet blanket on your enthusiasm, but
I just thought I would warn you!
But I'm hoping all goes well for you and truly appreciate
the first dibs on the fry!

I was out of town on business and the switch to the baby tank got turn off and the filter stop running and the water was all nasty, when I got home. I put the mom back in the main tank - noticed she wasn't holding anymore, but didn't see babies. today dumping out the tank i find several babies corpes and one alive. I have it in a small solid plastic container in the main tank and hope it survives.
Pseudospecialops - September 24, 2007 07:39 AM (GMT)
I have experienced a lot of false starts with young females the first time they hold. And if you go back through the breeding forum you'll find threads about ME messing up when the females are doing everything right! dumb dumb
My business trips also always seem to be scheduled where I have to depart the day I notice a female holding and I have no spare tank to get her into! I totally get that rotten feeling of coming back and finding something wrong in a tank. yikes
I've found that with patience and regaular water changes they just keep spawning, though not every species I keep has yet "delivered" for me. This late summer I've been crunched at work and behind on my water changes and I still had two Acei hold to term for the first time (2nd try for one, first for the other).
Anyway, I can empathize with hopw you feel. I had a single Yellow Lab. survive from a spawn where I messed up, and that sole survivor is now 1/2" long. So they can make it solo in breeder boxes and quarantine tanks!

Sorry to hear the bad news, Yodahorn!
But as Don said, they are prolific breeding machines and they
will breed again soon!
