I just watched my female fryeri digging her own spawning site, then shaking and releasing eggs. She would then turn right around, scoop them up and swallow them. The male was just swimming around like nothing strange was going on, as a matter of fact he would chase her off the spot and then go back to just cruising the tank. I have never seen this behavior before, espcecialy not in a hap of breeding age. I am just wondering if anyone else has seen behavior like this. The male is about 5 inches long, the female right at 3.4 or 4 inches. The ammonia and nitrates are right where they should be respectively. The only other tank mates are the trio of strawberry peacocks...a syno. eurip...and a BN pleco. This is a new one on me.
I can't say that I've ever seen that. Maybe he was inexperienced and didn't know what to do? Hmmmm
I do know that my male fryeri has spawned with the female fryeri one time in the past year. He much prefers and is always spawning with four female A. calliptera that are in the tank. Sad
Very odd for sure...maybe she wears the pants in the relationship!
Maybe he had a headache???
Weird, Mongo...Only you...
Sounds like the makings of a Jerry Springer show to me!
Seriously, though...Is this your only female? Perhaps introducing another would make them straighten up and fly right?
