Title: Pix of rare L. Tanganyikan

I'm sure most of you know Sarah (longstocking) the mod over at CF. She is a friend and member of my cichlid club, Capital Cichlid Association. Anyway, I often phototgraph her fish. A few weeks ago she asked to take some shots of a very rare fish she is keeping. They are wildcaughts from the lake, and supposedly are not being exported.

She has a male and female she is trying to breed. They are huge...and very red!

Petrochromis sp. red "Bulu point"

Steph, you're darn right I will. I am trying to get my hands on these since about a year and a halve.

They are from Tanzania and the reason why they are not exported that often is their size (10"- 12") and their aggressiveness. I still don't know why the importers in NA don't bring them in more since they are quite common with European hobbyists.

Bobby, awesome pictures ones again Cheers!!! Cheers!!!

Bobby great pics and I just LOVE those fish! They remind me a little of my old Tilapia mossambica (now Oreochromis mossambicus).

Sarah was trying to keep these a secret for a while. But, as you all know, nothing is kept secret very long in this hobby.

As Klaus mentioned, these fish are big. Here is a shot of Sarah (using one of my cams) shooting them in her large tank. Even from across the room, where I was shooting, they still look huge...and colorful.

Nice shot Bobby. It gives everybody a feel for the size of these beauties. Just look at the adult Tropheus which are probably about 5".
Sarah, I am green with envy blinky blinky blinky

Loved your fish and I loved that little
giant!

Thanks everyone ! It's just a pleasure having them in my tank.

For you Petro keepers... I found they aren't as aggressive as most Petros. Kind of timid actually. No luck yet though... I think they need to be fatter.

Most of the fish in this tank are really large. Full grown wilds that came in from AD years ago.

Thanks again Bobby for coming over !

Hey guys,
I too have been after these for about a year now. I talked with one of the importers to toronto and i was told that the exporters give first dibbs to the europeans and the NA's get whats left over and thats why alot of the rare species such as this are never sent over.
I was told by darius (most of the ontario guys know this guy) is bringing them in this fall, but wants between 400-600$ a piece! Little pricey i think, especially when these do much better in a sizeable colony.
I think it would be cheeper for you to fly over and catch your own colony at that price lol....
If anyone knows where to get these though either canada or the states let me know too. I would much prefer juvies though if i got them... have they been bred before i wonder?

Beautiful captures, Bobby!!! Very impressive fish.

Sarah, you're a very lucky gal to have those!

They're stunning. Amazing really! :)

I have had the thought of going on a diving trip just to bring these in, in large numbers.

They have been bred before by a guy in Texas. He had some fry and sold some to hobbyists. The female I have is actually from that group. She is f1. The male is wild and unrelated. They have also been bred in Europe.

I have seen most of the pictures Bobby and Sarah took of these guys. Sarah, I may have to make a special trip over after a meeting just to see these two.

It would be sooo nice to build a 300-350g and have a sm petro colony and some trophs. Hmmmm I wonder if Chen still has that 300g ??? :)
