Title: How should I light a 31" deep tank?

Hello. I put 4 4' flourescents over my 31" tank. The light does not seem to penetrate down to the bottom well enough. Blue fish seem washed out. Any ideas? I know this sounds crazy but what about 3 floodlights on the ceiling shining on the tank from the front. Thanks. Steve.

I once saw a tank that was well lit with track lighting
mounted on the wall just above the aquarium!

It gave it a contemporary look and made the tank
kind of cozy!

I believe it was 4 75 watt halogens bulbs on the track
lighting fixture!

You should use Metal Halide between 250watts to 400watts that should cover your depth and for how many pieces, i would suggest 1 Metal Halide Light per 2 feet.

I think using a lot of fluorescent lighting would be better than MH lighting. You don't want to run your electricity bill that high just for seeing the blues better on your fish.
