Title: Little ones...
Kim - August 6, 2007 03:15 PM (GMT)
My babies seem to be cooperating more than my adults these days as far as pics go...
Little 3/4 inch Cynotilapia White Top Galireya (these are the angriest little fish that I have at this time, yet the adults are very peaceful for mbuna)

And this little White Top is living dangerously in my main tank...(He's from the same clutch as the 3/4 inch ones pictured above, but he's probably just 1/3 of an inch...Food isn't as easy to come by when you're on the run!)

1 1/2 inch Cynotilapia Mbamba Mphanga Rocks

Fight between 2 Cynotilapia Mbamba males...Chitende Island (front) and Mphanga Rocks (back)

As much as I complain, it's neat to grow them out and watch them mature!
Thanks for looking!

Wow! We really do have a lot of the same fish!
I have Cynotilapia sp. "white top hara" Galireya Reef, and Cynotilapia sp. "Mbamba" Mphanga Rocks too... Good Job
Great pics. I feel bad for the tiny guy, but even in our tanks sometimes nature has to have her way.
Great shot of the fight! 4mongo

almo, I honestly think the little guy may actually survive! He swims right out in front of all the larger fish all the time, and they don't seem to care...Now if he makes the mistake of swimming out in front of that crazy goby I have in there, it will all be over! That tank is full of babies, we have two pieces of spaghetti rock in there and they live inside the little holes in the rock.
You should post some pics of all your mbuna, so we can see them! I've really got a thing for the Cynotilapias!

Nice fish and pics, Kim!
They are a beautiful blue color and I hope to
see them when they reach maturity!

If I can figure out a way to smuggle some down that way, I will let you know!
They are a very nice shade of blue, some of the nicest looking fry since the Cobalts!
I thought this one was cute, too...Two little males fighting in the background, it would have been a perfect shot if the others hadn't swam in front of the camera...But you can still see how puffed up they both are!

What??? Did you even keep the demasoni???
Mongo, Mongo, Mongo...I thought surely mbuna would have just enough "attitude" for you!
Thanks for the compliments, all! These little guys are just great! I can't wait until I get enough of them grown out to have a nice tank full of them!

That last picture is so cute - I just love those little faces. It looks like a showdown between a future show male and a fin nipper! :D

Great pic of those fry facing off! One of my 172 #1 most favorite things about cichlids is that (like me) they start adult behaviors young and stay childish forever!

Kim, I am having some major tank trouble right now. That D@^^n plastic tank that I have had so much trouble with over the years with finaly crapped out on me. One of the Mongolings slid and rammed into the tank last weekend. It started with a small crack along the bottom seal right in the front of the tank. It started to grow a little each day, so it went to the curb for trash pick up and I had to downsize for the time being. The first thing to go was the demasoni...sorry but they were ones I considered that I could live with out. Also went the...SOB...BOO HOO...Buccochromis nototeania. With only one six footer to spare right now, the synspilum went in there...the nics and red head geos went into the glass 75 gallon...the strawberry peacocks and the fryeri went into a 55 long for right now. I have the albino nagra flametails and the albino Taiwan reefs which are still very small right now in a 55 breeder. I hope to get another six footer in the next couple of months, but for now thats all I got as far as tanks go. Right now I just dont have the space for extranious fish.

Wow, Mongo, that just sucks...I hope you had time to realize what was going on before flooding your house!
Aura, you are right, they are little 3/4 inch fin nippers and show males!
It always amazes me that these little things can be so scrappy! I've seen newborn auratus liplocking, and it makes me wonder how they got along long enough for the mom to even hold them in her mouth!
Don, maybe we are living vicariously through our fish! They can act like little hoodlums while we appear to be mature repsonsible adults!

Mongo, glad you caught the problem before a deluge came, but sorry to hear about your tank.
I agree, Kim: having cichlids is like gentlemen watching boxing. You feel civilized but your eyes are riveted on the glass where raw natural aggression is on display!

Thanx guys, yeah another "accident" and Mrs. Mongo might have put her foot down. Sad So it will be a little bit before I get any new fish, but I do have credit at my LFS that is slowly burning a hold in my pocket.

Wow...the fish sure do look gorgeous Kim! THe Gallerya reef are absolutely stunning!
Kim - August 14, 2007 01:27 PM (GMT)
Thanks, Steph! We've got them growing out everywhere, so much for getting out of the breeding, huh?

Kim, do you like these better than the demasoni's?
