Title: I think my Acei spit in the main tank

Just cursing my travel schedule and not having a chance to get her out of there in time. I noticed her 2 weeks ago so I thought I was OK.

I know there will be more holding females -- I just was looking forward to my first Acei fry. dumb dumb

And my Lab. Mbamba looks like she's about to burst -- just hope she can wait till the weekend for me to get another fry tank and have time to tear everything down so I can get her out. worry wart!

Hey, I know what you mean...We just had a female spit into a breeder net that we thought had only been holding for a week! Sometimes it is hard to keep up with everything! Our calendar in the kitchen looks like a nightmare!

And you never know, Don...You might see some of those little guys scurrying around the rock work in a few days, if you're lucky! We've got fry in all our adult tanks! If they survive, we'll have to keep them for awhile just to determine who they belong to! I think we tend to return alot of moms to the main tanks with fry in their mouths! Blush

Good luck on the Mbamba, Don! Good Job

Acei are very prolific fish so there will be more
opportunities in the future! Bouncy

Sigh. God warns us about procrastination in diiferent ways.

I got up this morning all ready to tear down the tank, catch the Lab. Mbamba and put her in a breeder box until I could get another small isolation tank for her. She was cruising around normally, buccal cavity distended.

I went upstairs for breakfast, came down to start work... and saw she was no longer holding.

Boo Hooo Sad Sad

Well, you're having some bad luck with fry, Don!

Just for future reference...I see absolutely no problem with hanging a breeder net earlier for your holding moms. If you've ever isolated them in a 10 G holding tank, you'll see that they find a spot and stay in it once they are adjusted to the new tank. In the past, when I didn't have extra space for holding moms, we will take a breeder net, a piece of silk vine, and put the mom inside the breeder net around the end of the first week of holding. (I don't like to take them out earlier than that, because if they're going to spit or swallow them, it will usually happen in that first week...) But then I don't have to worry about losing all the fry in the main tank, if it is fry I really want to keep!

As Preacherboy would say, I believe I am being given a lessen in character rather than bad luck! :D

My future fry will be better off for my having learned this lesson.

Thanks for the continuing great advice!

Amen, Don!

But I sure hate to attend those "Character Building"
classes!

I hate the classes and homework, but the graduation
day is very nice!
