Title: A few more auratus

Aura - July 21, 2007 02:43 AM (GMT)
Well, I did it - I saved a few auratus babies. I haven't been keeping any fry, but since one of the males killed a female right after he spawned with her by ripping her throat out, I decided to pull this one out for her own safety. Once I see those cute little faces, I have to raise them - I just can't help it.

She made it through most of the holding period on her own, but I just didn't want to take any chances. I can't explain it, but as mean as they are, I still like them alot.

Dad, mom, and babies.

Sigh... They're like miniature James Bond villainesses. So beautiful, so graceful, so deadly. :ph43r:

If I had enough tank space I'd raise them myself.

James Bond villains??? More like Jeffrey Dahmer wannabes... :D

But they really are beautiful, and Aura has some of the nicest ones I have seen...

You see far too many faded males in the LFS, probably traded in because they are ax murderers, but regardless, it's nice to see a group coloured up as nicely as these are!

The fry are irresistable...I know what you mean, Aura. The little demons come out looking identical to Mom, with all the attitude of a 4 inch fish!

Great pics, you are really good with your camera!

(I hope Pete doesn't see this thread, Aura. He still gets the urge every once in awhile to throw a few in our tanks, this is his favourite mbuna of all time!)

They do have the nastiest disposition most of the time. I had these babies in a small floating breeder box, but they were already chasing each other (since day 1) and I found one dead last night, so I released them into the 10 gallon tank with bigger fry. They are all accounted for this morning.

That little breeder box didn't have enough room in it for all of that attitude. Grrrr
