Title: One of my fish has redness..
cturner - July 20, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
I came home and was searching through the tank and saw that my breeder male has redness at the base of his pectoral fins. Is this something I should be worried about? To be quite honest I don't remember taking notice to it before.
Am I just jumping the gun??
I tried to get a picture but he wouldn't hold still! dumb dumb

Do the fins seem to be deteriorating at all? If not, it may just be a slight injury from getting caught against a rock or something like that.
If you should notice any deterioration or white fuzzy appearance around the edges, you might have fin rot, but that's usually not the case!

No deteriorating. Just really red around the base where they connect to the body. It's on both sides.

It would be great if you could get a pic...
Redness can also mean septicemia, so it's hard to say without seeing the area.
As long as the fish is behaving normally and eating okay, I wouldn't be too concerned. If he should start showing any signs of odd behaviour, you might need to hit him hard with antibiotics.

Thanks Kim, Sorry I've been out of town for a little and I'm not getting any email alerts like I was. I'll have to check into that.
Anyhoo, he's doing better. A few days later and no red! That was weird!
