Title: My mate Bill and I
Description: Our lone Malawi!! **56k beware**
kilroy - July 19, 2007 03:47 PM (GMT)
Hi all,
We currently have three tanks of Tropheus. Last year I sold the last of our Malawi's - A breeding colony of Labidochromis sp. 'mbamba' (1M 6F). That was to make way for some more tropheus. About a month after we sold the mbamba's, I sighted a very small fry <1cm in amongst the rocks. It was a little mbamba, and he had survived a month in a tank of Tropheus duboisi juvies.
Anyway, I couldn't bear to part with him. I think he actually believes he is a tropheus. He is now 5-6cm and lives with 15 F1 Tropheus moorii 'mpulungu' juvies.
I thought I would share some pics of him. Bill and the trophs get along like a house on fire!!

Ever played 'Where's Wally'?

Cheers
Shane

You may eventually have to put Bill in counselling... :D
Hey, maybe I should sneak in Klaus' house and drop a mbuna in each of his Tropheus tanks! That would throw him for a loop!
Bill is quite the looker! Ever think about going back with some Malawi's???

Well, in that case your access to my house is from now on restricted and you are to be checked thoroughly before entering. :ph43r: :ph43r: :ph43r:

I'd love to have a mixed malawi tank of some size, and some more mbamba for bill to play with. The females are very drab though, and nowhere near as nice as the males. I really like saulosi, and a big tank full of them would be a sight to behold!!

Fun story! And he's a BEAUTIFUL fish! Thanks for sharing.

Love this thread and the pics. I have 3M 2F (as they grew up) Lab. Mbamba and I'm hoping for a spawn to get better ratios.

I have a problem with the drab looking females, too! What about an all male Malawi tank? I'm sure Bill would be the king!

Beautiful fish and tank, Shane!
Bill is simple awesome. You could call him
"Awesome Bill" like they call Nascar driver Bill Elliott!
I don't know how I missed this thread, but when you
start talking about Saulosi, I'm all ears!
I love my Saulosi and I am always looking to add more
to my tanks. I just can't seem to get lucky enough to find
more females!

Thanks for that. Just a quick question. At what size/age do you know if you have a M or F saulosi?
Cheers

I can usually tell when they are about 1 to 1 1/2 inches long.
The males will start to show a little black on the front edge of their
dorsal fins and an egg spot will start to develop as well.
In addition, vertical black barring will also appear.
The females will remain completely yellow.
