I just bought a Jebo UV-H36 with no instructions.Does anyone know anything about these things? Wondering what the best way to hook it up is?

Thanks

UVs work better if the water passing through them is filtered first, the reason being that small particulates in the water will block some of the uv, making it less efficient. My uv is in-line, after my canister filter. I believe you can also hook it up by having the water pass through a powerhead with a sponge pre-filter first, then the uv. You have to match the flow-rate to the size of the uv, and what you are trying to accomplish. To kill parasites, you will need a longer dwell-time, or a strong uv. To kill free-floating algae, you don't need as strong of a uv. If you go to Dr. Foster and Smith's web-page on uv, there's a good chart on size vs. dwell time.

Thanks.I hooked it up the same as you.Now I just have to figure out the flow rate.

Thanks again!

unless you hooked it to an fx5, you should be good, I have a 36 watt turbo twist on my 225 gallon tank, fed by the mag 12 in my 40br sump, no green , ever, in my water, and thats with a heavy fish load, heavy hand at feeding time, and 384 watts of pc lighting.

I agree with Poobear. I use a UV also. You can use it with any type of pump like a Powerhead or External Filter, anything that would push water through it but with the correct water flow, and MUST be filtered.

Sorry to 'thread-jack' an existing post, but this one has a relelvant title, and it seems to have quietened down over the last couple of months...

I'd be really interested to learn people's opinions on the value of adding UV sterilisation to the return-lines from your external canister filters...

I've been toying with the idea of adding UV sterilisers to my tanks to help with algae and parasite/pathogen control (I don't currently have issues with either - and I'd like to keep it that way through the "prevention is better than cure" approach), but opinion seems to be somewhat divided as to the actual value/benefits of such devices - I'd like to learn the general opinion of members on this forum regarding the addition of these devices - and any insight into their day-to-day usage/overall reliability.

Cheers!
