Nice shots! Are those three catfish Syno. Multipunctatus?

Derek
I was going to enter them but I didn't join until the 11th and the original post said the deadline was the 10th. Seeing how you have extended the deadline until this evening I'll see if there is a pic or two I can send you.

Those cats are petricolas. I think that every African tank should have a group.
I've seen you mention Lab Mbambas befor e so I assume you have some. I have found thse fish to be really high strung compared to other mbuna that I have kept.
Have you had them for long? How would you describe them?
Thanks

If I had known you were going to rub those flavus in my face I would have never told you where we were! :D

That is one fish I have to keep again! I'd also like some more Cyno. sp. Lion's Cove!

I don't know much about the L. Mbambas! Pete had one at one time, but I never kept a group of them. They are truly beautiful, though!

I gotta get my camera skills going here...

I have 5 Lab. Mbamba in my juvie Mbuna tank, which I bought at 1.5"-2" from a breeder. They're now more ibn the 2.5" range. I think I've ended up with 3M, 2F, and each of the males has taken a turn wearing dominant colors.

Right now the smallest of the 3 makes is a rich dark velvet blue with a yellow fringed tail (caudal fin) and a yellow dorsal fin. The 2nd male is almost as brightly colored, the third is more subdued. The females are a drabber purple with black and the yellow fins.

Their stripes go all the way to their tails, like your first photo above, and not at all like the photos below that first Mbamba.

It took them a couple of months to color up after I got them. I feed NLS and HBH Veggie Flake.

They seem to like to hang out with the Acei in my tank, and I plan to separate them when I can due to their similar colors.

When one male was supplanted by another as dominant a few weeks ago (without any real visible damage) he hovered for days in a cave looking out at the prime open space at the front of the tank, trying to sneak back there the moment the new dom vacated his spot. It reminded me of a guy cut off for a parking place just waiting for the next day at work so he could pull in first and take the prime spot!

They have lots of personality IMHO. I've been wondering about how different the Cyno. Mbamba are, with their seemingly identical look.

I have had no spawns with these guys, perhaps because my Lab. Hongi are much larger and have a blue-dominant color pattern. I also plan to separate them from the Mbamba when I can.

Hope this helps!

Don

In that case I'll have to post alot of Flavus pics! Nanananaa

Don thanks for the info on the mbambas. Mine always seem to be in motion but if I spent a couple of days traveling across the country in a plastic bag I'd be alittle high maintenence!

Yeah, mine definitely took a while to settle down and color up after their Ohio-to-California trip!
