Title: Red Empress?

Aura - July 10, 2007 08:21 PM (GMT)
Okay, I guess I'll be the first to say I haven't fully identified all of my fish.

I've had four of these for about five months now and have been waiting for them to color up a bit. I got them from a guy who said they were red empresses, but when I posted for ID back then, I was told they might be poorly bred or hybrids.

Starting to show some color.

The flash washes out the color - this is closer to what it looks like.

Aura, don't feel bad...I can leave the LFS with the name of the fish and lose it before I get home...

He's going to be stunning! I know nothing about red empress, but I think they are beautiful.

Wow Aura they really colored up great!! I'm glad to see them progressing well for you. I lost mine to bloat, that is what made me change my tank around!

Kim, I now try to write the name of the fish down while I'm still at the store and if I'm lucky, I can still find the paper (usually some small scrap in the bottom of my purse) after I get home. But that doesn't help if the fish in the tank at the store isn't really what they have it labeled as.

Cturner, too bad you lost yours. These are turning out pretty nice from the silvery little things they used to be - whether they are pure or not. I'm not looking to breed or sell any of these so it matters not to me.

What's funny is that my lone F (who looks just like the photo) has grown normally since I got her 5 months ago, but what turned out to be my males have all grown slowly.

Of course, since thus far the males' only color is green they may be a different species entirely!

Pseudo, are you sure your female really is one? Do you have a picture?

Pseudospecialops - July 23, 2007 06:27 AM (GMT)
I gotta get my camera skills going... Right now she looks just like the top image on this thread, but all silver and black with no other colors.

Thanks Cichlidfinatic,

He's looking even better now, but I can't get a decent picture. The flash just washes him out. idunno It doesn't stop me from trying, though.

Take the Flash off, what kind of digital camera do you have??
heres a tip:

Take your Background off the tank..and replace it it with a black one...turn all lights off in the room and turn the flash off on the camera..if U have a high speed setting on ur camera nows the time to use it ..if not no biggie just gotta get a moment where the empress is stationary.. now take that shot!! be like the PRO"S

try it out

I'm just using a point and shoot, Canon Powershot A540.

It has some manual settings which I keep meaning to read up on so I can figure out how to use them - one of these days.

I do have a black backgound on that tank. That last shot I took was from the side without the flash. I guess I need to work on that higher speed to get a better focus.

Thanks for the tips and looking forward to your pics!
