Title: Horizontal Lines in Caudal Fins

Pseudospecialops - July 9, 2007 01:44 AM (GMT)
I've noticed that in my Haps tank a series of fish have developed short black horizontal lines in their tail fins, running parallel to the tiny bones and about 1/8" long. Doesn't look like anything other than pigmentation, but when I saw it show up on a yellow lab I knew it wasn't just a natural thing.

Sound familiar? What should I do to treat it?

No apparent ill effects yet, but that's why I want to stop whatever it is now.

Thanks!

Don

Can you post a pic of the Yellow lab?

This isn't spots, just a line, right?

There is something called "lateral line disease" that is linked to Hole in the Head - the two are linked together in most discussions. I've never seen it in my tanks, but I've seen pics of it on line.

Here is a link on HITH that also mentions it...

My only concern is that you say it is "black"...From what I have seen, lateral line disease is more of a "discolouration" than anything, along the lateral line.

I'd love to see a pic!

Are they acting normal? Eating? Hiding?

Behavior all normal. Looks like someone took an ultra-fine black marker and made a short line on the tail.

I have to get a little time to try to get pics... crazy week.

While you're trying to get pics, I'll dig around and see if I can find anything that might apply to this...It's a new one on me!

I've got a crazy week, too...Year end, month end, and off last week...The fun never stops!
