Title: Need some info
bradley - July 6, 2007 02:43 AM (GMT)
anyone have good plans for building a show ply wood tank. I need one for my caiman (alligator) as he is outgrowing his tank and i want 2 more hehe.
I want it to be 10 feet long, 6 feet wide, and 3 feet tall (but the water only up 18"). Any ideas. I also need to find someway to turn it into a hot box as they love 90-100 degrees in both air and water.
Any info would Help!

Brad, what species of caimen are you keeping? I know a guy who has two 4 foot long dwarf caimen. Hes got more money than sense...he has a pool built right in his livingroom. Its is built out of concrete. The wall is three foot high and has a three foot plexi-glass window on top of that. It comes ut from the corner to 20 feet at its widest. BUt the reaaly cool part is that he has a hole built into the outside wall that leads into a pool outside on the patio. The pool outside is 30 feet long and 10 feet wide. It has an island in the middle with Plants and dwraf willow tree growing on it. It has the ability to do WCs with the turn of a switch, and there are lounging areas in both pools. I got called out to this guys house by his neighbors. I got a call stating the guy was keeping an alligator which is illegal in Texas as they are considered endangered. But it was deffinately impressive, along with his 3000 gallon reef tank. He had a 3 foot tall stag horn coral in there that was amazing.

How surprised was this guy to have an officer arrive who actually understood and appreciated his set-up??!! Giggly

To tell the truth, I spent more time there than I should have. But he had that amazing reef tank, and then we got into talking about fish. He did it completely backwards from the way it normaly goes. He jumped in with both feet into the whole reef keeping thing. That was his first experience with fish keeping. Only now is he getting into cichlids. He likes...gulp..."ALIENS". So it just goes to show that you can never really tell about someone. But he does have one of the coolest reptile setups i have ever seen. Except for the guy that built a room in his house for an 18 foot reticulated python named "Bertie".

mine is a dwarf as well. i am getting another called a smooth front caiman. The are legal by my town by laws becuase i am out in the country, but the guy i got ot from was in toronto, he was moving and could not publicly list it just incase there was a canuck version of officer mongo he'd be busted. He called me up and i made the decision instantly, put together a suitable tank and picked it up the next day lol.

Hey Mongo! 4mongo
Did the man have to get rid of the caimen? Hmmmm
If so, did you have to take it back to headquarters

Bradley, that is too cool. Mrs. Mongo would never let me keep anything with scales other than fish.
PB, the caimen is not on our proscribed list of animals that can be kept by the general public. So to answer your question, no I didnt take it back to the office. Besides, I thought it was all too cool and wouldnt begrudge anyone such an awsome pet...as long as its legal. :D
