Title: Saulosi & Estherae together?

Dumb thought...is this a recipe for disaster? Just curious as I've been tempted by them before and think I found some good healthy 1.5" fry. They breed at a smaller size am I not right? Oh...and are they hyper dominant aggressive?

They could go in one of two 6 foot tanks including....

Phenochilus, Bicolours, Cobalts, Cynotylapia Mbamba & Yellow labs

OR

3-5" frontosa, Electra (deep water hap), pseudotropheus Longior, Capidochromis Trewavasae Mloto Likoma, Estherae 'minos reef'

Don't be scared by this second tank...I put half inch fry in there for food...and nobody touched them and now I have to scoop out 1" fry cause they didn't touch it. This isn't a longterm plan with fronts in there, but they bore me to death and I need dither fish because they are so spooky.

Thanks for the input...Steph

If the first tank is holding those male Chitende Island mbambas, I would steer away from putting saulosi in with them. You might not get good long term colour out of either group.

I think the saulosi would be fine in the second tank, as long as the fronts won't eat them!

Question is, do you have a good saulosi source around here, because there are some really crappy ones going around?

That might be your biggest hurdle!

Keep in mind long term that you will never want them in with your demasoni!

Good point Kim. I'm selling off a few fish and wanted something colourful and thought the saulosi might be nice in the tank with the estherae...you don't think they'll cross with them do ya?

I don't think so, as long as you've got ample males and females of each...You might see what Larry thinks, just to make sure, but your estherae females are pretty red like mine, right?

Yuppers Kim...that's them! Bright bright orange females!!! I might do a little moving around when things settle down and I get rid of a few bastard fish here!!!

I was hoping for some orange fish in each tank....but you really think the saulosi mixed with the mbamba is a bad mix?

Steph, you can try it...I don't think they will crossbreed, but I do think you'll have more trouble getting the boys to colour up. These little dwarf species can be very difficult when they encounter a bigger similar coloured male. That is why I don't have many of the little buggers anymore. I had a terrible time with my afra in a tank with larger sized barred mbuna.

Okie dokie smokie...I'll give them a shot. They need a tank to grow out in for a bit...so I'll give em a try...by the time they grow out I'll probably be bored with one of the species I already have...lol!
