Title: What would be the best food for fry?

I would like to get some opinions from a few different people. I keep mostly mbuna and was just curious to know what other people feed there mbuna fry. What would be the best?

Well the easy answer is baby brine shrimp and microworms for very small fry. For most Malawi fry, they are usually large when they are out on their own, so an all-round good quality crushed flake can work, with supplemented frozen brine shrimp.

I just keep doing the crushed flake thing, it's the easiest I find. As they get larger I move them up to a fine crumble I purchase through John in KW. But you don't have to do that....you can keep them on flake all the way through if you wish!

Count me as another crushed flake guy. Interested in reading other responses, however!

I use for my herbivorous cichlids a good spirulina/veggie flake and nothing else. The fry gets the same in crushed form.
Experimenting with food is not one of my favorite things to do due to some bad experience in the past. However, I have tried pellets like NLS and crumbled food since they seem to be easier to use but my fish definitely like the flake better. The decision was easy for me :D

I use NLS growth formula. The pellets are .35mm. Sometimes I crush it down to a powder for brand new fry or I just drop it in. I also use the regular 1mm pellets and let them work on it for a while.

Occasionally, I'll add some baby brine shrimp.

I use baby brine at least 3 times per week. Sometimes more if I feel energetic.
About 1 time per week they get the frozen cyclopeez. (spelling)
The rest of the time I use New Live Spectum -Grow.

Our fry get crushed flake, the same flake the adults get, depending on their dietary needs.

I'm with Klaus on changing up or switching foods...I've had bad experiences, and I like to find something good and stick with it. I think it's even more important with the herbivores than the omnivores.
