Title: Prime
Finsofafrica - July 24, 2008 03:09 AM (GMT)
Ok Id like to get some opinions on Seachems Prime.Im looking to replace my current water conditioner with a new one considering my supplier no longer carries it.After doing some research and experimenting with different products I think that PRIME may be my answer. It seems to be relatively cost effective(I have 45 tanks to maintain)and looks to work well. Now some things Ive heard is that it STINKS bad and turns the water blue(instead of clear)Now is this stuff gonna stink up my entire house considering the amount of WC that I do?
Your input is appreciated

Hey Derek;
I've been using prime for years. It does have a bit of a smell to it, but only until it hits the water then the smell goes away. As for the water turning blue, I have never had that happen. In my 120 gallon tank I add 2 caps every change and Am very happy with the results. And to answer your question about stinking up your house, No you wont even with the 45 tanks. If you start supplying it PM me the price and I my order a few bottles.

Derek, Prime is the way to go! I was using Aquasafe for a really long time till I read up on the benifits that prime offers. It's 10x more cost effective since it's concentrated. It does have a rotten egg smell to it but it goes away real quick. For some reason my gallon bottle really stinks compared to my 9 oz. bottle. Maybe it's because of the larger volume....I don't know, but Steven's right the smell goes away as soon as it hits the water. I've never had any problems with it turning my water blue.

I use Prime as well with the same results mentioned above. Tres Bien! I've noticed that I usually don't smell anything when the bottle is new.
Another product that I have thought about trying is ChlorAm-X. It comes in a dry powder formula and is comparable in price.

Thanks guys and gals!
I have tried the cloram x.It seems to work well.I prefer the liquid formulas however and they do have a new product called "ultimate"
Im placing an order with Kensfish for some 4l bottles of "prime" they have it for $59.99.According to my calculations that will do 20000 gallons of water!Aqua safe 2l bottles do 5000 gallons at $34.99 each.
Steven if you want in on an order send me a PM

Hey Derek, I can't add anything to what everybody else has said
about the benefits of Prime, but its the only water conditioner I've
ever used and it works great.
I buy mine online as well.
Make sure to calculate out the price per ounce or in your country
millileters because sometimes buying in larger quantities will end up
costing you more in the long run.
And its weird because the prices will change often and sometimes
buying in larger quantities is better than smaller bottles.
Hope that helps, Derek!

Another Prime user here. A fishkeeper I respect very much turned me onto Prime about 5 years ago and I have used it with every water change ever since. I agree with everyone's observations of the product posted above.

I wouldn't use anything other than Prime!
And Derek, keep your nose away from the bottle! It's not Melafix! Giggly
IT"S FOR THE FISH!
