Title: Proven Angel Pair
Description: What to Do

yodahorn - July 11, 2008 02:46 PM (GMT)
I just purchase a proven pair of angels for my 37 gal. planted column tank. Any specific things that I need to do ensure the fish continue to breed once they move to my tank? What do I need to do ensure fry survival? Can any other fish remain in the tank?

I would make sure i provided them wiht a number of spawning locations lots of slate rock or large leafed plants such as swords which the angels can use for cover as well as for spawning. I always try and leave at least one target fish in the tank for them to pick on. This target fish should be non-aggresive.

Thats my advice hope it helps

thanks, I think I'll switch out some of my vals for swords. I have a couple of rainbows that are way fast , so they would make good dithers. What about temp or water changes, etc?

Yoda, We keep our ph between 6.5 and 7 when breeeding. I also do regular water changes. The temp is kept between 82 and 86 when breeeding. My son and I have bred many Angels. With 1000's of fry.If we can helpI will be glad to. We let ours lay on leaves and pulled the leaf and put in a gal jug with a light air bubbler.

What do you do to keep you ph between 6.5 and 7?

Easiest thing to do is get a additive of some kind, there is a product called Easy Ph 6.5 and it sets your pH to 6.5 instantly. Make sure the water is soft if you can, Soft acidic water is key.

Yoda, get bulls eye 6.5 It will put it right on..

My son has raised 1000's of angels. We had a electrical problem and we lost 600 fry.

thanks I'll get the bulls eye 6.5, sounds easier than experimenting with peat.

Peat also softens the water which is good.
