I think this is a a pair

No, they are not a true pair.

The top fish looks like a Labidochromis sp. "perlmutt", but many of the stripes seem a little thin. The bottom reminds me of an "Mbamba Bay". Please don't cross these.

To know the sex of the perlmutt you'd have to either vent the fish, or see if it ever holds eggs. The bottom one seems male by the egg spots but some females get egg spots as well.

the top one looks a bit like a male Kenyi to me...the body shape, colour, stripes, etc.

not a pair. Top one is as Lisa said- a pearlmutt (possibly a cross) but not a hongi or a kenyi . If a true pearlmutt , most likely a female due to the absence of any black tips on the finnage.

Bottom one again (as Lisa said) is likely a mbamba

I agree on the first one being a perlmutt, or at least part perlmutt.

But I think # 2 is Ps. perspicax "Orange top"!

probably not, look at the stripe that goes through the eye -its vertical on the ps in the profile pics, also the pseudo appears to have a more elongated body

Maybe Larry will chime in on it! I could easily be wrong, but it sure looks just like the perspicax he has in the store that I've been lusting after!

Giggly

I'll email Larry and tell him to take a look before we confuse the OP completely!

Then Larry can step in and confuse us all!

Meanwhile, any chance of a full profile shot including the tail?

Its not a pair.
Its not a 'perspicax'.
It could be a red top Kimpuma.
This species has been popular for a long time and with selective breeding,or in this case, angle of camera on the fish, tends to show off some very nice coloring.
Don't expect to go to the LFS and find this exact fish though.
Here's my links for this one-

You have to look beyond what is pictured here and say to yourself,,,OK the fish in this link ,,,, if I worked with it long enough could it look like Les's fish.
I would think so,,,but I'm not so sure that it may not have been crossed on the way to the photograph at some point.
The 'Kimpuma should always be showing some barring on the head,,but this could have been bred out,by crossing this fish with an Acei.(my thoughts)
Nice fish though!

Cheers,Larry
