Anyone ever kept these guys?

We picked up a couple last night, and they are very entertaining. I've got them in with my rams in the community tank.

I was actually quite excited about them until I read that they can literally escape the tank and survive for several days outside the tank. It's even believed that they move from one body of water to another to breed in the wild.

I've kept them in the past. The first ones I had many years ago and they lived a good long time, but more recently they didn't do too well. I tried a couple of times in a community tank and couldn't keep them alive more than a few weeks, so no more for me. worry wart!

I've kept loaches, just not this kind.

From what I understand, it's almost impossible to get them to breed in captivity - interesting to know, since I appear to have a male and female. The male is about 6 inches, the female about 4...I think they can grow anywhere from 10-12 inches.

We went up to see Larry on Saturday, I was looking for something odd to put in with my rams and just couldn't decide on anything...(I know Larry thinks I'm sick because I don't think he's ever seen me walk out empty handed... Giggly )

It sounds like they get along well with almost anything, very peaceful.

I'm actually wondering how they would fare in a tank with some young juvenile mbuna or brichardi...They make a good clean up crew as far as I can see!

We used to have a weather loach a looong time ago. He lived in our 55 gallon community (we hadn't discovered African cichlids at the time!). Very peaceful fellow. The loach used to sit in my husband's hand, until one day he jumped out of the tank.

I still have the dojo loaches, they're actually doing quite well.

No, I don't still have the SW tank! We couldn't expand that particular set up like we wanted to as far as lighting goes, so we decided to hold off on SW for awhile.
