I have to replace my submersible heater in my 75 Gallon tank just isn't keeping the water warm enought. I'm wondering what type is most effecient, and durable. This heater was with the tank when I bought it used. I figure the 250 watt would be adequate.
Any Suggestions??
Thanks

Hey JD!
I have always preferred the Visi-therm series of heaters.
I really like the stealth model and I have never had one malfunction yet!
(Now that doesn't mean it can't happen, but its never happened to me yet)
One other thing to consider might be to buy two heaters instead of one larger
size; maybe 2) 150 watt heaters.
(yes I know that this will be the expensive route, but with the price of fish,
a little investment up front may be better in the long run)
This will help prevent "fish soup" if a heater happens to malfunction in the high heat
zone and slow cook your fish.
If you have two heaters of lesser wattage, then if one malfunctions, then it can sustain the temp long enough to purchase another one and thus save your fish.
Hope that helps, JD, and great to see you hear again!

Thanks PB
I had read that 2 are better than one, and it does make sense. Pretty cheap insurance.
I'm off to by to 150 watt heaters.
I had a major melt down on my computer, wiped out my c drive and had to reload everything. I major P.I.T.A. LOL
I'm off to get those heaters. My tank is set for 79-80..... and its at 77, even though i have cranked it up on the settings.
Do you fully submerge your heaters. The directions say not to, but everyone I have spoke to say they will burn out otherwise.

They call them submersible heaters;
I place mine along the back wall about an inch off the bottom of the substrate;
That helps my fish not to get burned while passing through or trying to lay up against it!
Good luck!

I have the same heaters as preacherboy, Visi-Therm Stealth, and have had no problems ~knocking on wood~. I keep them fully submerged. Tres Bien!

Sorry I got to this one late. I also use the Stealths! Best heater you can buy in my opinion. I have 2 and I lay them down towards the bottom of the tank. I like the stealth because you don't have to worry about the glass cracking <----been there done that!

Evening....
I could only find 1 but it is a 200 watt. Put it in and within 2 hours temp was right on again. Will get another 150 watt when they have them in stock.
Thanks All

I use two 250 Watt Jager in my 120 Gallon and its always at 80-81 degrees and they turn on for only a few seconds once in a while.. Never had any problems with them.
Except when I forgot one off when doing a water change, rookie mistake, didn't take long and the heater cracked right away.
Glad you found one, but I would recommend two
