Title: Fix it yourself
Description: PYTHON SYPHON SYSTEM

Morning

Not sure if this is the place for this, but thought I would
share it with you.
I purchased a Python Syphoning Unit, saves tons of work
hauling H2O. From Big Al's in Barrie 2.5 hrs drive south of
North Bay. I brought it home and it dripped a little at the
valve shut off. No biggy, its plastic and S....t happens.
But after 5-6 uses it drips so bad that I have to hold it over
the tank, and it barely syphoned because of the air it was
sucking at the valve.

So I call Python and they say send it back and that it will
take 3-6 wks to return. To long IMO. Shipping was $7.00
They suggest buying a new part $10.00 Plus shipping and
shipping the old one back, and they will replace it. Didn't
make much sense to me as I would then have 2, and still
be out of pocket for 1 plus shipping, so I decline.

I still had the receipt so I called Big Als, they say no
problem, if I bring it in they will replace it. Gas here
is $131.00 per/litre so doesn't make much sense either.

So Home Depot to the rescue.... I bougnt a solid brass
shut off @$5.50 that fits exactly. Bouncy

I'm calling it "BINFORD 5000" Ar Ar Ar (Tool Time)

So if you find you are in need of a replacement shut off valve,
Might I recommend theirs, which is much more durable and will outlast
the remaining components of the unit.

FYI

Oh and it works better than than the original did!!

Good Fix JD! I loved Home Improvement when it was on and I still watch the repeats. Have you noticed watching the show that everything is Binford 6100?

thats a good thing to keep in mind, now if you can tell me where to get some more of that thicker, non kinking hose that python uses I will be forever grateful. The other vacuum sets that replaced python in my neck of the woods use a smaller diameter hose that would make water changes in 125's a slow process

Hey there Les

Google:- 5/8" Clear tubing.

This place seems to be the cheapest (in the 15 min spent looking online) if you buy 100 ft.....

I believe that it is 5/8" ID(inside diameter) you might want to confirm what you have.

Awesome post

I went today and picked up my brass valve switch! I also picked up some brass quick connects.I bought two of them and heres the reason why.I use the plastic syphon only to take out the water.I remove it to put water in.At $15 to replace that piece of plastic because they wear away after 6 months and the good water pours right out the bottom!!This way I can easily disconnect and reconnect quickly.I hope this adds to your great idea

Very useful info.. Thanks a lot.
I have one that leaks now and will replace it with a brass shutoff.
