Title: Sponge Rock
Description: Safe for Cichlid Tank?
JD1960 - June 1, 2008 02:28 AM (GMT)
I was at the LFS and saw a nice rock, with lots of nooks and crannies in it. Bought it and then thought it best to see if Sponge Rock is safe for Cichlid Tanks. Check on internet but can't really find out much about this rock.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I don't know much about it. I don't see why there would be an issue. It might make your water alittle harder. Plus with it being so porous it would probably hold some really good bacteria. I would just be carefull with fish getting stuck in the nooks and crannies.

Can you post a picture of it JD? It sounds like a rock that Kim has -- I'm not sure, but I think she calls it spaghetti rock? idunno

Hi Aura
That is indeed the same rock, although it appears to have been sliced and bored.
Mine is a chunk. I will wash it up and put it in the tank for the fry, which is why it caught my eye in the first place.
Thanks very much.
I bought it @ Pet Valu and it is $4.99 per/Lb.....
It is the same price as all the other lava rock / coral / slate / and a number of others that I don't recall the name of, but crumbled to the touch.
Cheers

Wow, $4.99/lb. Make me appreciate the rock prices in my LFSes.

LOL,
Yodahorn, you have no idea.
For laughs just log into a Canadian Retailer and then compare the
prices on the same USA Retailer. Its crazy!!!
I know this is off topic. But my Brother-in-law is Truck shopping,
online, and a truck here is $49,000.00 the identical truck in Michigan
is $29,000.00
He thought it was a mistake so he called to the Dealership and
they confirmed the price. But we can't buy new from the USA.
So the dealership offered to put 1,500 kms on the truck, and sell
it to him used. Oh, and the truck was made inOshawa, Ontario.
Now thats crazy.
Whatever you guys are doing down there, keep doing it.
the Clap
Cheers!!

Hi Jd I noticed you do lots of shopping at pet valu. Have you checked with kishas Den on Wallace road. You can get your coral rock and other things their most times cheaper than pet value.. box of coral 50 pounds is $100 aprox. $2 per pound
