Title: Resin pieces for aquascaping

This section hasnt gotten much activity lately...
Just curious if anyone here uses any of the painted resin pieces for decoration. For example the various caves, or stumps/driftwood. I have used many driftwood and stumps because the "artificial" wood does not stain the water or require time submerged in order not to float.
Anybody?

I've used lots of resin pieces in my tanks over the years. I have a stump looking thing, I couldn't even tell you what it is, in my QT tank. I usually would take them out after the paint would start coming off or I would get tired of the layout then I would put something new in.

I recently added resin stumps and rocks to my tank and my fish love them. the only thing i would recommend is that you look into all of the openings when you take the piece out of the water to avoid killing a trapped fish.

I have some too. Most of the pieces are older, but they cost too much not to use. blinky I rotate them in and out of a couple of my tanks. When the paint wears off, I repaint them.

Bluefront, that is great advice about checking inside. I look and listen as well. I have killed two fish in the past because they were inside one of those decorations. Even after checking, I've removed a piece and later heard a fish trapped inside.

I've read some pretty insulting comments on other forums directed towards people who have fake decorations in their tanks, but I don't understand what the problems is. Most of mine are fake rock or wood, but so what if you want to put the Roman coliseum or Sponge Bob, etc. in your tank. Wiggle it just a little bit!

X2!

I dont understand it

What can you repaint them with? After time, some of the paint on mine needs to be touched up

I touch mine up with Krylon Fusion spray paint for plastic. I had one old piece of fake rock that was almost white, so I sprayed it brown and black and it matches the rest of the lace rock I have in that tank. It's been in there for a few months and hasn't come off yet. I'm hoping it will last a while.

I've also painted my filter intake tubes and some pvc pipe with it.

I removed all my plastic/resin decorations last month and junked them all. I've never thought of painting them I'd be interested in seeing how that painting holds up in the tanks.

My reason for removal was the plants were breaking apart and clogging filters and the 2 large root sections I have faded and started to stink ! so I'll just stick to rock work BUT there is nothing wrong using artifical landscaping in aquariums most look great and provide excellent caves.
