I'm sure this will be an easy one for you all. Thanks!

bluetaz I'll bump this for you. Sorry I can't help, indentification is not my expertise by any means! blinky

cturner, I understand. I have 2 of these guys, but the other one's stripes have a little less contrast. They look skinny and seem a little more active than my Mbunas. This one is approx. 1 1/2" long.

I think it is a labidochromis perlmutt.

Pseudospecialops - May 8, 2008 09:53 PM (GMT)

Doesn't look like any fish I've had or seen identified, but I'm not anywhere near as experienced as many others here.

The one comment I'll make is that the egg spot in the dorsal fin is very unusual and should help narrow down the list.

I agree it looks an awful lot like a male pearlmutt.

Here's a pic of my other "possible pearlmutt". Do you think female?

Thanks to everyone for your input. I really do appreciate it! Tres Bien!

I'm no good at IDing fish either, but I don't believe that's a perlmutt -- the face is wrong and the body looks too thin and elongated.

The last picture reminds me of the Pseudotropheus flavus, but I'm not saying that for sure.

Here's one of my young uncolored flavus for comparison.

Woah - definitely not perlmutts. (Imagine an electric yellow that's got yellow and pearl colouring, with some black edging) I've had perlmutts before and those don't look like them to me at all. Is a long bodied fish there, have you looked up the different varients of elongatus?

I thought the same as Lisa. I dont think it's a Perlmutt either. I know Les has a couple pair of these. Maybe he'll see this and post some pic of his?

Lisa,,,if you have any pic of yours,,,maybe post 'em and let them compare????
But you probably would have if you could have?? Nanananaa

Nice pic, Aura. Thanks for your comment. Hopefully we'll get to the bottom of this.

Lisachromis, no I haven't, but I will. Thanks!

Thanks AP. Maybe Les will be "the man". No pressure Les!

Maybe an afra variant? Elongatus?

Definitely not even close to a perlmutt!

It may be hard to pin down exactly what it is. What did you purchase them as?

Kim

bluetaz - May 11, 2008 07:32 PM (GMT)
Kim, that's part of the problem. I bought approx. 26 fish that day to stock my 75 gal. Being new, I realize now that I should have written everything down. I'm still waiting to see if Les may know something about them. Thanks!

Hey sister, you could email this pic to Bluegrass Cichlids and see
if Eddie can identify the fish he sold you.

Just a thought!

I'd love to, but I had these fish before I even had a digital camera.

I agree that it is probably of the pseudotropheus elongatus complex. Here is a couple of pice of my Elongatus Chaloisi

PB, Getting with Eddie sounds like a good idea.

Thanks anyway, Lisa

Thanks Dave. I'm still curious about the egg spot in the dorsal fin as pseudospecialops pointed out.
