Title: Those feisty little Bolivian rams...
Kim - May 2, 2008 04:18 PM (GMT)
Just thought I'd post some pics and show off my babies...
This is one of my favourite tanks at the moment.

The younger ones are maturing, and the older ones are spawning non stop.
We lost the last clutch that we siphoned off. I think I put them in too large of a tank for them to be able to get their food properly. I put them in a 25G tall, and usually start them out in a 5G tank, which is what I will do from now on out.
Thanks for looking!

THAT I can understand Tres Bien! Tres Bien! Tres Bien!
These little guy's are extremely good parents and have no fear whatsoever.

I hear alot of horror stories of bad parents, so I'm thinking that I got extremely lucky with mine. I lost one of my adults about a month ago to unknown causes, so now I have the two females to one male, causing some pretty interesting dynmamics in the tank. The male from my remaining pair has been showing extra interest in the lone female, but his old female doesn't like it much.
I'm hoping he eventually gets to spawn with both of them so I can determine whether the dead male was the bad parent in that pair. It would be great to raise fry from both together, all with the same dad.

Nice looking Rams, Kim!
Too bad about the male dying.
Good luck with the future spawning!

Kim, do you do anything to alter the water that you keep these in? (pH, hardness)
They look great. I only have two males now. The third one died and I'm not going to take any more chances and end up with yet more males. I guess those cute little baby rams are not in my future.

Nice Rams, Kim!
As if my MTS wasn't bad enough already...

Thanks, all...
Aura, I don't do anything to the water. My ph on all my tanks sits right at 7.6. This tank has real driftwood in it, but it doesn't alter it at all.
I can tell you this, though...I saw huge changes in their colour and attitude when I moved them to the larger tank. I initially had them in a 40G breeder, but gave them their own 55G when I saw how enjoyable they were.
What size tank do you have those in? I know it's really important to divide up territories with your decor...I like having an open space in the middle of the tank, but somehow my big piece of driftwood always winds up there. But with a 4 foot length, I can do things a bit differently.
