Title: Puggin' Drilled Tanks

yodahorn - April 28, 2008 01:09 PM (GMT)
I have the opportunity to buy 2 drlled 65 gal tanks for $135. How should I go about plugging the holes. The seller suggested a pvc test cap and silicon. Other thoughts? I don't want to buy the tanks and have them leak (they'll be in storage for probably over a year until I move anyway), but I think the pirce is good.

If they're glass and drilled near the top of the tank, I would just get a square piece of glass of the same thickness or a little less of the tank and silicone it on. Or if you plan on using a canister filter on the tank you can modify the end of the hoses to run in and out of bulkheads.

Here's a link that I found on another forum to back up sealing with a piece of glass...

Hey Yodahorn, you might want to give Jehmco a call.

They specialize in things of this nature.

I have done business with them recently, and the transaction went
perfect!

Go to CF and look under the review section for their website info.

Good luck and that price isn't too bad! You could probably get a new 65 for
around $150.00.

Let us know what you find out!

cturner the holes are in the very bottom of the tanks on the tank floor.

Yeah with them being on the bottom I myself wouldn't take the chance of using pieces of glass to seal the holes. I've heard of people sealing holes on the bottom with another full sheet of glass.

I am thinking that I might just pass on the deal altogether.

just buy a "bulk head" I have one on one of my 125 gals- it doesnt leak at all. In fact its absolutely perfect- it screws to the glass like a nut and bolt- and uses flat rubber gaskets. Very, very reliable. You wont be sorry if you used these to plug the hole Tres Bien!

good info for future reference; someone else bought the tanks.
