Title: Paracyps spawned!!
Description: first time!
multies - April 14, 2008 10:22 PM (GMT)
YES! after months and months of waiting, they have finally "spawned"
she did not hold to term, i dont even think she held for a day! as soon as the food were in the tank, she spat them near the filter intake and they kept them up still.
so i got a good look at them. they were orange with a white dot on the top.
i saw 2. shes at least 2.5inches. she was 2 1/4 a couple months ago when i measured her.
hopefully next time will be better. i may not even keep them longer then that since my mom doesnt like them.
her view of paracyps
Boring
un active

yeah, when i was feeding, it was against the tube, i guess either someone popped it and it got sucked up or they ate them. either way its not good for me.
but i havent done a water change in like a month. doing one tomorrow for sure!

I know with Mbuna an unsuccessful spawn is often the precursor to a successful one. Congrats on getting to this point! Tres Bien! Tres Bien!

Pseudo, paracyps arnt quite the same as mbuna which as far as im concerned will often breed in a toilet. mine hold off and on (sometimes they will hold to term, sometimes not), with the albinos not having any sucess at holding. At that size i imagine they would maybe be a year old or less so give them a few more months. Just keep up with the water changes, and some good food (Brine shrimp seems to work) and theyll be spawning again in no time.

thanks bradley, i feed them drozen daphnia, and hbh flakes.
i will be doing a water change today since im free tonight(finally)
bradley, the are not yet a year old, still very young.
i got them last august or early september before school started.
so its been.. 8months. 8months with another month? for them to be growing up to be sold. so about 8-9months for their first spawn. its not bad iguess.
female seems to be taking alot of hits from the male. she has black spots on her Grrrr
btw bradley have you seen Mikes new V.moori pair? they are very nice.. i want them Drooly but the price is up there. 100$ for the pair.

yes i have seen them. the fist ones that i sucessfully bred were about 9 months old. these are considered a slow grower but when i got fry, mine hit half to 3/4 inch within 2-3 weeks, suprisingly faster then most of my other fry with the exception of my large hap fry like my fossochromis rostratus and my red empress, oh and frontosa. If you feed them 100% frozen food im sure you will have some very nice results with them. how many are in your colony, ratio? I rescently pulled my nicest 3 males and 10 girls from my albino colony and trying to spawn them in a divided 90g, but no luck yet.brad

2males 2 females.
well, they are considered slow growers but i think they grow at a pretty decent speed considering they are tangs. man shellies take FOREVER to grow.
lol malawis grow like 10x faster then paracyps. the malawis i got right now(mbunas) are growing like crazy. im only feeding them like tetra color bits and hbh flakes

yeah mbuna grow and breed like weeds
