Title: Canisters making noise...
Description: XP3 and 2217

All of a sudden I cant sleep in my bedroom anymore where I have a 90G tank. They started to make noise. What gives? What will I have to look into replacing? Last night the eheim got so bad that I had to unplug it, and now only have xp3 on the tank.

Any ideas?

I would take the canister apart give it a good cleaning and re-assembly it and see what happens. I've had this happen before because sand got into the impellers.

MY 2 cents

P.S If that fails then you could always get a big cinder block that way it wont make noise anymore

I agree with Adam on the impellers and sand.

How old are these filters?

If they are old, then it may be time to replace the impellers.

Good luck and let us know how things work out!

I did the cleaning and did not help a bit. To clean was my first idea. The filters are now 2-3 years old. I will try to locate the impeller, shaft, bearing. See if that helps.

thanx

i foudn that if you tank the impeller shaft and run a q-tip up and down the length you'll find out that it does pick up alot of crap that has attachd itself to the shaft

Also try lightly greasing the impeller with a light coat of vasaline after a good cleaning.
