Title: Jalo Reef
Ted - June 30, 2007 01:18 AM (GMT)
I moved all my fish into a 125 so I could sell my 75 set up and make room for another 6ft tank . I was a little worried that moving my Jalos would bother the females and they would not breed for a while, these fish have been rough to get fry from over the last year ! so when I looked into the tank tonight and seen a female with a mouthful I was very happy.
anyone else have these fish breeding ?

Hey Ted congrats on you're fish spawning. the Clap
I'm sitting here trying to think which fish from Jalo Reef you spawned. Hmmmm
I'll through my 2 cents in on the larger tank,,,,as it has brought fond and frustrating thoughts to mind,,,,,with just one question-
Ever try to get a brooding female out of a 125 gallon tank!
Great for show,I have 4 of them, but for breeding and removing females it's a lot of extra work,,,make sure no young kids are around while netting the fish out! On the Floor Laughing

opps Sorry I'm an idiot. Blush
Cynotilapia afra Jalo reef. I have 2 males & 3 females in a 125. 1 week ago they were in the 75 and when it was time to net them I told my 3 boys to grab a net and go to town.. I watched from the comfy chair as they all complained about the heater and intake tubes.. I knew having kids would pay off.. LOL

Having your kids net the fish was funny! Giggly
I had my kids to change the TV channels
before they created the best thing in the
world; a remote control! the Clap
Oh, and they were good for getting me
cold drinks as well.
Man, I really miss those days. They are all
grown up and out of the house now, so lazy
ol me has to actually get up and do things myself! dumb dumb

That must have been fun!
I kept kicking mine outta the fish room when they were young, but, I know they slipped in there and made some real havoc.
One transferred Africans into Angel tanks and visa versa.
Another dumped his "dinky toy cars" in a low 100 gal tank.
And yet another put my skippers in the same 100.
So I'm still scratching my head as to why they did it. On the Floor Laughing
The oldest has now worked for me at Big Als for 4 years.(he loves moving fish!)
Enjoy it while you can!
Cheers!!! Larry 4larry

I'm really hooked on the Cynotilapias right now...
I've got this one Mbamba female that is really letting me down, though. She spawns, she holds, but never more than 6-7 fry, and they don't seem to have a good mortality rate in her mouth...Many times their are alot of unfertilized eggs.
My White Top Galireya are spawning, and my other Mbambas won't quit, but this is the only female Nkhata Bay that I have and either she's a dud or he's a dud...
Larry, Tom helped me out on Saturday when we were at the store...Did he tell you I got a Mandarin goby? Then I told him I wanted a trio of johanni and he wrinkled up his nose and said "What do you want those for?" I said "I need yellow" and he just laughed and netted them for me. :D
