No Baking Soda is cheaper and Phosphate Free if you want to maintain a ph of about 8.4.
Don, from doing the illness folder at CF, I can tell you that you don't want to use any ph adjusters like that! I've seen far too many problems in tanks after using those, along with snail and algae treatments!
If you need to buffer your water, you can use a combination of baking soda, epsom salt and aquarium salt.
That's the safest route!

Even if your ph is lower than the ph in Lake Malawi, chances are your fish weren't raised in a ph that high, either.
It's just always safer to keep it steady than to start using additives and make it unpredictable.
I went through a phase of using a buffer, the homemade one that I was talking about above. I didn't see any difference in my fish, and it was a royal pain trying to keep up with how much to add with water changes, etc...
