RUN FOR YOUR LIVES....... Giggly
It is very rare for eggs to actually be fertile, but it could happen.
Im very surprised they did this...they are still very small. And i wasnt 100% sure I had a male and female.
Seeing as some are already white my guess the rest will turn too...I dont have any experiance with egg layers..so any info you guys can send my way would be great.

Enjoy I was sure shocked..

Well ABII males are mostly infertile so Im not sure any are even fertilized.
But man it would be cool. I have no idea if they are good parents or not.

That's awesome Leslianne! I hope some of them are fertilized! That would be so cool to see mini mutants. Giggly

I had a pair before and they laid eggs regularly and protected them, but they never hatched. like you said they are usually infertile.
labama - March 6, 2008 01:17 AM (GMT)
Yodahorn...did u end up having to take out the eggs...or do they eat them, or do they just disintergrate?
I dont have anyone in the tank to eat them..just the parents.
Thanks
Leslianne

they disappeared on their own. i was afraid i'd get fungus on them or something. I had other stuff in the tank too, but nobody was getting near the eggs.

Congrats on the eggs Leslianne!! I have had a little experiance with these beasts. I had a couple of them a year or so ago. They laid eggs regularly. Always with no survivers. I actually came to realize that I had two ladies that would lay eggs together. I guess they were "gay". lol.. They acted like a male and female pair. It was weird! Heres a couple older pics of mine.

I hope that something works out for you and your eggs. They would likely be some interesting looking fry to raise up.

Wow Jay yours were very pretty.
I will definatly keep y'all updated on these guys.

Congrats on the egg laying!!!
I dont have experience with these guys myself, but a friend of mine was trying to breed them years ago when they first came onto the scene. Supposedly most of the males are sterile. Some of his eggs that would turn white and were assumed to be infertile and then the pair would "clean" those up by eating them. Slowly all of the eggs began turning white. He worried that the pair would eat even the eggs that werent white yet so he removed the pair to see what would happen. Slowly all the eggs turned white and eventually got fungus.
But.... that was years ago when the fish first hit the scene- so its very possible that there are more fertile males now in the hobby. Good luck to you, hope some hatch 'cause I am dying to see how odd looking the fry are Tres Bien!

Oh, this is hysterically funny...
The fish you never wanted have spawned! Giggly
Leslianne, there is actually a forum specifically for BP's that you might want to check out...
http://www.bloodparrots.co.uk/forum/index....fd0bc83a5584279You might find more info there.
Meanwhile, I'm going to sit back and watch this unfold!
If ever there were a fertile male, I hope you and Aura have them!
