Title: False Green Terrors
Description: pics of their fifth spawn

Mongo - February 27, 2008 04:04 AM (GMT)
Some of y'all will remember these guys. Mrs. Mongo bought them with my credit at the LFS because she was bored and wanted to leave. Well they have grown exponentialy over the past few months. The male is getting really big and his colors are amazing. And they have spawned five times now. They are breeding machines. I think I am going to have to seperate them for a while just to give my grow out tanks a break. The owner at the LFS where we got them has asked me three or four times to trade them back. BUt Mrs. Mongo says I will have to sleep on the couch if I think about trying to take them back. I have promised him the first two spawns at a pretty good price. Good Job

And the female with the latest spawn hanging out just under her. I case you cant see them very well, it looks like they number about 200 or so.

It's not like you haven't slept on the couch before!!!!! take that and that!

Mongo,,,everytime you put pics on here,,,,they are of different fish,,,where the heck you keeping them??????

Yeah I have spent a few nights on the "couch" down through the last 15 years. But it never lasts longer than the one night...Mrs. Mongo is a sucker for my charms.

AP, I have MTS...so I have rooms and rooms of tank space. I only have eight species of fish right now, heres a list of the tanks and the stock in each one.

125 gallon
02 Vieja synspilum M/F pair
06 Geophagus "Tapajos" Orange Head 2 pairs and 2 extra males
02 Bristlenosed plecos
01 Syno "Feather Fin"

75 gallon
02 L. kendali M/F pair
05 A. albino nagara "Flametail"
02 Bristlenosed plecos

55 gallon
03 M. Aurora 2M/1F
03 Bristlenosed plecos (possible breeding colony)
01 Syno. "Feather Fin"

55 gallon
02 Aeguidens Sp. Surinam "False Green Terrors" M/F pair
50 Fry from the last spawn
200? from this spawn

55 gallon "breeder"
10 C. afra cobue juvies
16 Green Terror juvies from the 1st and 2nd spawns

I know that it dosent seem like I have kept a lot of the green terror fry. But I cull pretty heavily. I use the culls as feeders for the synspilum and now for the kendalis. The pair is so prolific, I might have to use all of the last two spawns as feeders just to keep them from spawning me completely out of tank space. I have several 55s and a couple of 75s in storage that I can break out and set up. But I hope to have those for some future species I want to keep. I know that there are going to be some people who will poo-poo the fact that I cull so harshly, but I just have always done it that way.

Well good for you Mongo..I think there are more people than we know of that cull, and use fry for feeders. They just dont say it because they dont want to hear it. yikes

What do you mean you have empty tanks all over the house???

What about some Calvus or Comps????????? Bouncy
I cant be the only one that has them. (well,,I am getting them again)
Come on Mongo,,,,come to my side. roll eyes ohhh please ohh please

What nice GT's! I've always really liked them.

How large are they now, Mongo? Did I miss that?

Just wondering how chaotic that 55G gets at spawning time! Do you leave any fry in with them?

Have to tell my wife that story and see if I can get her to pick some fish!

Love that pic of the male. Wish I had space for more species...

JDL, I dont feel trashed in the least. You made me go out and look to make sure I had studied these guys right when I first got them. These are not the true green terrors 'Aequidens' sp. "Silversaum", but the False Green Terror 'Aequidens' sp. "Goldsaum". Just about every thing I can find lists the False Green Terrors as coming from the area of Northern Peru to Southern Ecuador. So you were right in that they come from South America not Central. I dont know how I got that confused...blame it on my "red neck".
