Title: adding new fish

chelsie - February 27, 2008 01:23 AM (GMT)
I love my frontosa's , but the tank looks empty, what can I add that would be good for the frontosa's, nothing aggressive. I don't want the frontosa's to be in a corner because they are stress with the new fish, so what other fish can I introduce that would make the perfect tank?

bradley - February 27, 2008 02:12 AM (GMT)
how big are the fronts, are they wild caught?

Albino Pleco II - February 27, 2008 03:36 AM (GMT)
CALVUS OR COMPS. Bouncy

All adult males of course. This way there will be no "snacks".

Also, how big is the tank?

How many Fronts?

chelsie - February 27, 2008 11:40 PM (GMT)
they are 3 inches long, and I have 8 of them in a 6 foot tank 125 gallon. They are not wild. Calvus or comps?? We're do you get fish like that in Ontario??

thanks

Albino Pleco II - February 28, 2008 12:01 AM (GMT)
Hmmmm You tell me,,I dont live in Ontario. Nanananaa

3" huh,,,the perfect size for adult Calvus or Comps. Good Job

Arent there a few sponsors on here from over there????

multies - February 28, 2008 12:11 AM (GMT)
where do you live in ontario?
you can get a 4" wild calvus/comps for 40-50$.

Albino Pleco II - February 28, 2008 12:19 AM (GMT)
WHAT

WC for 40-50$????????????
Thats cheap compared to the states. MINGIA,,,I'd have tons of 'em.

What do tank raised ones go for??????

Bouncy Cloud 9 I got this tingling feeling Chelsie's getting Calvus or Comps. Wooo hoo!!

Chelsie honey,,,,you'll love them.

chelsie - March 2, 2008 06:38 PM (GMT)

chelsie - March 2, 2008 06:47 PM (GMT)

I can't find nothing on the other one (comp) what is the full name??

multies - March 2, 2008 07:47 PM (GMT)
their full name is

Altolamprologus Compressicep
if you dont mind the risk of them hybridizing then you can go for any color you want

tank raised.. i dont know.
i can get 1.5inch ish guys for 10$

Albino Pleco II - March 2, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
Bouncy Atta girl Chelsie,,,Calvus or Comps. Bouncy

If you plan on breeding them,,then you may want to try 1m/2f. Then again,,if so,,,you may be risking fry for snack with the Frontosa. Calvus and Comps are VERY good at protecting their fry,,but against "gentle" giants such as Fronts.,you may lose quite a few.

If it were me,,(as you said you have never had them before),,I would try to get just male Calvus in each color and maybe a few male Comps. 125 gal is a big tank and these altos take LONG to grow.

Your Frontosa are going to out grow these very fast and I think if you were to get pairs,,,which may be hard to do UNLESS you get them as adults.

HTH

Adam Robinson - March 3, 2008 12:13 AM (GMT)

AP.

chelsie - March 20, 2008 10:36 PM (GMT)
ya...............I did get the new gish, 6 comps and 2 moorii's, but they are always in corners. Hmmmm ................the only time that they are active is when I feed them frozen brime shrimps, so I know they are not sick. my tank is kind of boring...........I will post pics as soon as I can.......right now we are in the middle of renovation the kitchen.

Albino Pleco II - March 21, 2008 03:48 PM (GMT)
You can always go out to eat,,,,the kitchen can wait. Giggly

If you can put up some pics of the tank, (close -ups too), we may be able to see why the fish are always in corners?? Maybe it's just that they are "new" to it and they need to adjust?

Are these the only fish in the tank or are there bigger ones in there as well???
Do you have alot of rock work or caves?

Keep us posted. With pics to. Tres Bien!

AP.

chelsie - March 21, 2008 06:15 PM (GMT)
I also have my 8 frontosas, yes lots of rocks and caves, that is the problem, they can hide if they choose to. I took pics last night while they were eating, so it looks pretyy good, I will post them shortly. Eating out????? APII, i noticed you were saying that the female calvus/comp would potentially be eaten, i doubt it in the case of fronts, especially b/c these are not wild caught either. I have kept trios of calvus and comps in with my WC fronts without a problem. The males keep a good watch for the girls, and i have barnicles in the tank which they would tend to go in if chased.
Brad

BTW Congrats, nice tank! Chelsie

preacherboy - March 24, 2008 03:50 AM (GMT)
Nice looking fronts, Chelsea!

Hope you eventually get those pics of your comps!

Albino Pleco II - March 24, 2008 10:39 PM (GMT)
Nice Fronts Chelsie. Tres Bien!

BUT,,, I am still waiting patiently for Comp pics. Nanananaa

Brad,,,either you misunderstood or I wrote it wrong???,,,I was speaking of the fry becoming a "snack if she were to try breeding them in the same tank. Tres Bien!

AP.

Edited same day,,,,,sorry Chelsie,,,,CONGRATS on the no smoking. Wiggle it just a little bit!

chelsie - March 25, 2008 12:14 AM (GMT)
Albinapleco: What do you mean SNACK................?????? I know the comps are small but snack for who??????

3rd day smoke free...............................not easy tonight....................I'm eating apples and nibs..........................LOL

multies - March 25, 2008 02:35 AM (GMT)
Gum will help :)
will keep you chewing for at least an hour.
do not chew over 6hours since the flavour will be all gone and all you can taste is
rubber.

just think of it like this
3day of free smoking, thats 4 more days until a week!
and how many packs of smoke can i smoke in a week?
____ packs! im saving ____$$
and ___$$ can go to my fish fund!

the blanks are the X.

Albino Pleco II - March 25, 2008 09:06 PM (GMT)
WOW,,,I had to re-read this thread. I thought I was confused???? Nanananaa
This is what I meant for "snack". (from an earlier post)

Talking about fry if you decide to get adults and breed. Tres Bien! :FAINTLY:

But I think you already have them small (juvie) right, idunno ,, so they'll be NO breeding for a while????

AP.

Still awaiting pic.

chelsie - March 31, 2008 12:21 AM (GMT)

Your too funny!!! I've been busy with work and lots of training.............They are doing just great....Actually all the fish are well...................I'm very happy with the tank...................I need to get a new filter and you guys gave me lots of info and I need a new air pump, that is all for the oscars...............

the air pump is 4 years old still running but the air bubbles qare only coming out one side, I change the bars, but still doing the same thing. So I guess I need to get a new pump.

this one is very pale, always alone, are teaming up with the morrii's.

Albino Pleco II - April 13, 2008 02:46 PM (GMT)
Very nice Chelsie,,,the top Comp looks very healthy.

It took a while for them to get used to the tank and their mates huh?
But the Fronts are just as timid as them so there should be no problemms with them!!

The "pale" one,,,is that getting picked on by the other Comps? If so,,,it's possible the others are pairing off??????? And they are pushing that one out of their spawning group???? Bouncy OR,,,, It's just the less dominant male???

MORE PICS. Nanananaa

Thanks for sharing tho. Tres Bien!

AP.

OH,,,,BY THE WAY,,,IF YOU CLEAN THE CAMERAS LENSE,,,,YOU MAY GET CLEARER PICS. Nanananaa take that and that!

chelsie - April 13, 2008 02:58 PM (GMT)

Albino Pleco II - April 15, 2008 12:13 AM (GMT)
