If 10-30% water changes are done weekly, would you still do the same amount when your fish are holding? and what about when the fry are born and swimming in the same tank?

I always kept my routine exactly the same whether or not a female was holding, or they were fry in a tank (unless it's something delicate). Most Malawians are pretty tough. 25-30% water changes shouldn't hurt them unless there's something really wrong with your water.

I agree with Lisa on her routine.

Although,,Geelite, you didnt say what type of fry.

When I saw my Calvus or Comps doing the "chicken dance",,I would change the water one last time (25-30%) Then keep an eye out for fry. But when the fry were out and free swimming,,I removed some water from the main tank and used it for their grow-out tank. These types of Altos are very sinsitive,,some people leave them in with the parents if they are the only fish in the tank.

So if you are going to put them in a grow-out tank,,try using water from the main.

I mean any fry from Lake Malawi. The fish i have holding now is a Yellow Lab.

Also thanx for the info you just provided AP the Clap

Oh i forgot to mention something else. I did my water change and noticed my Lab holding the next day. I remember with my SW Tomato Clownfish was always like that, they always laid their eggs after a few hours. I used to do my WC every two weeks and everytime it was the same thing.

I have noticed that a lot of times my fish seem to be in more of a spawning mood after water changes as well. I remember one time I had a pair of demasoni spawning vertically against a rock while I was refilling the tank. blinky

Geelite, I really like your new avatar! I have been pooped on by a bird or two so I can relate. Giggly
