Title: Help me plan a Tank
Description: 55g

DaveB - February 22, 2008 04:47 PM (GMT)
For starters I haven't kept any Tangs for about 20 years. Back then I had Lelupi, Julies, Multies and a colony of Duboisi. Not in the same tank though

So I'm going to be freeing up a 55 and am considering a Neolamp tank.
The species I am interested in are and I don't HAVE to have all of them are in order of interest:

Neolamp Buescheri Mbita
Neolamp Nigriventis
Neolamp Caudopunctatus
Neolamp Cylindricus

I also have a passing interest in Inkfin Calvus but am not sold on these.

The plan is to put a half dozen juvies of a few species in a community setting that would be heavily rocked and possibly planted(ie annubias or Java Fern).

Who do you think could play reasonably well together?

Thanks
Cheers!!!

with cylindricus or the leleupi, you cant add any shellies.
they behave the same. you can try telmatochromis sps. or lepidiolamprologines.
or you can try the not true shellies :)
N.caudopunctatus
T. tamporalis shell
bigger Ornatipinnis(smaller ones will get killed)
or a big colony of multies/similis/ calliurus will work out.

personally, keeping a ton of rockdwellers will cause problems.

my stocking would be
paracyps
shellies
buescheri.

Dave, there are two of my all-time favorite Tanganjikans on your list. Neolamprologus Nigriventris and Neolamprologus Buescheri which I still keep at this time.

Personally I would not keep more then two Neolamprologus species in a tank of that size since they are very aggressively defending their brute and their territory. These fish have a very strong bond as a pair and you might end up with one pair of each species. I always keep them as a pair in a 30g. That way you can observe their very interesting family life with 3 to 4 generations living together. The Buescheri have very small clutches (5-12 eggs per spawn) but they breed readily.

Good luck and I look forward to see what decision you made Good Job

Dave, is this the tank in your office?

I echo what Klaus said. I like both species mentioned and they are not all that common in our area, so you may have friends popping up left and right to help take fry off your hands....hint, hint.. Drooly

No I'm not keeping expensive fish at work.

They will be in a tank in my cellar. Eventually I want to move away from mbuna to tangs. I'll see what is available at the NEC auction.

Right now I'm keeping and breeding N. Buescheri. So if you are interested come by and pick some up. The N. Nigriventris is a different story but they are available in the GTA. I know that Mike at Finatics has some.

Hi AP good to hear from ya!

Yes even I am getting the comp bug. There cro-magnon type face has grown on
me. I might get them next week but who knows.

Here is a couple of pics to wet your whistle. They aren't the greatest but they'll do for now. I even took a pic of a green thing so I can look nostalgically at it after it has turned to much.
