Title: A. Hecklii

Just picked up a group of 7 adults. Not in the best shape. They were in a 210 with a group of maturing psitticum(true parrot cichlids). They got beaten up by the parrots and were beating on each other. I couldn't pass up the deal. They have a bit of HTH, but I think good clean water will help them.
Sizes range from 7 to 9 inches. They're in a 125 that I had to hurry to set up yesterday. I just picked up some sand and driftwood and they're eating and venturing out from underneath the giant anubias I placed in the tank. I snapped a couple of quick pics before putting the sand aind driftwood in.

Good find Gerry, and good luck with them. Is that the starting of "hole in the head" I see in the second pic?

Thanks, Mongo and yes, HTH is present. The previous owner had some difficulties keeping up on water changes while cruising the carribean the last couple of months. Giggly That was one of the reasons for sellign them. He knew he wasn't doing them any favours.
A couple more pics....

Impressive, and good luck with the HTH. It can be rather difficult to remedy that stuff. I picked up an jaguar cichlid once from a guy that had a bad case. Ltos of clean water and medicated food and he survived. He always had the pits in his head, but he lasted 5 more years longer than he would have.

Good luck with those Gerry. They look like great fish. Lots of clean water for that HTH like Mongo said. I'll be looking forward to updated pics when they get better!

Good luck with them. I bet they are happy to be in their new home. I like hearing about rescue stories with happy endings!

Very nice Gerry Good Job Great pictures and great fish. Nice to see that can take awesome photos of other fish too besides Tropheus Nanananaa
The HTH should disappear after a few weeks of TLC and some god water changes.

Thanks for the positive comments!
Klaus, it seems like I'm following your lead. Tropheus to South Americans. When I saw your eartheaters I decided that a tank of Geo types would be a nice change and good practice for tank shots, consdiering these guys won't be dashing across the tank non-stop. Good Job

Hey Klaus, since when did you start getting "God" to do your water changes? Hmmmm
God is my boss and I can't even get Him to come to my house and do
water changes for me! Giggly

Gerry, I am sure you will enjoy these guys. I'm down to three Tropheus groups and it looks like I will be down to two soon. There is one species of eartheaters that I'm after for a very long time and I might have a lead on some. Retroculus Xinguensis are not found very often in the trade.

Any update on these fish?
K.K.T. - May 19, 2008 06:49 PM (GMT)
be prepared, for your most beautiful fish will have its seat taken. These fish are the best looking fish I have ever had the honor to see. It seems HITH is pretty common with them. I was doing 80% water changes on them every other day and still it happened. Good pick up and good luck.

I can't wait to pick up my group of 6. Drooly They are going in a planted 125 by themselves so hopefully I get a pair or two and see some eggs. From what I gather they dont spawn easily...... Nice fish and nice find. I pick up mine in 3 weeks. They are still a little jet lagged from the flight :)
