Title: HOB Filter Splashing?

Pseudospecialops - February 3, 2008 12:05 AM (GMT)
Maybe a dumb question...

I have been concerned about putting an HOB filter on my 55G because it sits against a wallpapered wall and I worry about splashing that will mar the wallpaper.

Valid worry or silliness?

Thanks!

I have never had a problem with splashing. There are times when the lid hasnt been on...and no problems.

If you are really concerned about this, you could put a small piece of clear plex glass over the wallpaper where the hob sits. Tall enough so if you do get a splash it dosnt fall in between the 2.

And if you use small enough nails or screws it will keep the amount of damage to the wallpaper at a minimum.

I did have a problem with my old style Penguin filter with the bio wheels that weren't completely covered. It wasn't really from water splashing, but was more of a very fine mist that couldn't be seen. I noticed it because the tank was next to an end table that had a magazine on it and after the filter had been running several days, the magazine cover was crinkling and curling up! When I picked up the magazine, I saw that the wood on the end table was darker underneath the magazine and the finish on the exposed part of the table was slightly whitened. Grrrr I now have a canister filter on that tank!

I haven't had any problems with the newer Penguins or the AquaClears.
