Title: My Fish have arrived...NOT!
geelite - January 15, 2008 08:27 PM (GMT)
dumb dumb Yet again i'm not sure where to place this post so...
Well finally got a call from my LFS regarding my new fish, only to find out that they are not the fish i ordered Grrrr
This is what they got
1) Haplochromis moorii - not sure but i know hey can get BIG
2) Melanochromis johannii - not going down that road again
3) Microgeophagus ramirezi - not going to work out in Mbuna
4) Labidochromis caeruleus Hmmmm
Now as i mentioned i really wanted the Pseudotropheus saulosi and that is what i ordered and i was told was in this shippment, but as usual my LFS is Melafix fix!
So since i got ants in my pants and cant wait any longer what do you all think i should add until i do finally get my Salousi?
Maybe 1M-3F Haplochromis moorii??? :Help!: :Help!: :Help!:

If you're going to wait for the Saulosi, then I wouldn't take any of these
for some of the reasons you already stated.
There is certainly a possibility of cross breeding between the saulosi
and the yellow labs.
Since I believe you're interested in a breeding project, I would wait until
your LFS gets their act together and gets you what you want!
Good luck!

Sorry Geelite, you sure are having your share of trouble getting your tank populated! Why you little..
That's quite a different list from what you ordered!!
geelite - January 15, 2008 09:04 PM (GMT)
The cross breed problem is why i dont want the Yellow Labs, they are nice but i rather have the Salousi.
Dont know anymore, but thanx for giving me the advice cause i was going to go for the Haps until later and add the Salousi.
worry wart!

I have heard of people successfully keeping moorii and caeruleus together. I think that would make a nice combination.
Of course this would affect what you can add to the tank later. Are you wanting this to be a mbuna tank?

Geelite is this LFS the only one in your area? If it is I would, and I know this is hard, but wait patiently until your Saulosi come in.
If it isn't I personally would find another one if they couldn't get my order straight!

Well basically i just wanted salousi, around 20 pcs but that was all i wanted in my tank.

If they are available, then stick to your plan and wait it out.
You'll be much happier down the road than to be stuck with fish
you really don't care much about!

I agree with waiting for what you really want. Good Job
I have a tank full of saulosi that I wish I could give you - I don't suppose you want to come all the way from Bahrain to pick them up do you?

I think this a wise choice.
Since the tank is new and it needs to cycle you really need to cycle the tank with fish that will not tear each other apart!
Ps.Saulosi are great but can be a bit aggressive,,,even at a young size.
A colony is fine but I would think that a tank of the size you mentioned would look better with at least a half dozen different species in it.The Saulosi could be the major theme.
When you get things set up to breed, then you can move fish in and out of the big tank,,,,but forget removing brooding females on a regular basis from a large tank.
Kim always said that doing so would create some obscene language. On the Floor Laughing (I like it better the way she says it!)
Cheers,Larry
