Title: Frontosas... (Moba to be exact)
Description: general Qs...

Tomek - November 29, 2007 02:19 PM (GMT)
Ok... first off I have never kept fronts before and know very little about them. But from what I have seen in other ppls tank...

- whats the big deal about them, is there something in their behaviour that is interesting?

- from what I have seen in photos I like the look of Moba, what makes a great looking Moba frontosa (what to look for when buying juvies or adults)?

- is it better to get grown fish or small juvies?

That will be all for now, but I bet I will have more Qs soon.

They are beautiful and interesting fish. You want to have more females than males as the males will probably fight. They are maternal mouthbrooders. They are not too aggressive for Africans. You should have plenty of caves.

I would get juvies as adults are very expensive and I find it interesting to watch them grow and how they change over time. Just look for the same things that you would look for in any fish as far as health. They should have purple cheeks and have bright blue markings.

OK first off, the most colour definetly come from the Kapampa varient. the mobas, tembwe, kitumba and other zaires seem to be just under in my oppinion.
I bought young wild caught kapampas 13 monthes ago at 4-6" and are now 5-8" and breeding. i must disagree in the facxt that a high male ratio that they will fight. My ratio is 5:7 and my males never fight and i have had 2 sucessful spawns from them in a 125g.
I find them one of my most beautiful fish. buying juvies or wild caughts completely depends on how deep your pockets are, really... I bought wilds because i could see and pick the nicest ones already showing full adult colouration, aswell as the most perfect specimens possible. wild often have a deeper blue IMO, as most F1's i have seen seem more powder blue or washed out....
If your buying juvies, look for the bluest ones, and perfect baring.

Brad, just let them grow a little bigger and you will disagree with your own statement.

Nice video 'bunt".

Chelsie,,they usually ARE pleasant fish. But like any other species,,,when there are more male to female ratio,,,they will become agressive towards others.

Chelsie asked this question......."from what I have seen in photos I like the look of Moba, what makes a great looking Moba frontosa (what to look for when buying juvies or adults)?"

I am SOOO glad that nobody said that she NEEDED to get WC if she wanted the best looking fish. the Clap

(we all know what that kind of talk leads to). Hmmmm
