Title: Raised yellow spots on new cats

Aura - November 18, 2007 07:01 PM (GMT)
This is the strangest thing and I have no clue what it is/was. :Help!:

I picked these up a few days ago and put them in a quarantine tank - thank goodness!! The next day they were absolutely covered in yellow bumps. yikes I thought it was ich at first, but the spots seemed larger and were yellow.

I added aquarium salt, started raising the temp, and also added Quick Cure at half the dose.

The following evening, I noticed one of the fish nibbling at and appearing to be removing the spots from the other. By the end of the night, one was almost spot free and the next morning the other was nearly spot free as well.

There is also a third that was covered with the same yellow bumps and those bumps are gone and have been replaced with a few white spots that look more like ich. The other two are now completely normal looking. All three are active and playing around in the tank like nothing's wrong. I'm going to keep treating for several more days.

It's just so strange the way it showed up so suddenly and disappeared the same way. What do you suppose this was? idunno

I can't look at these pictures without feeling creeped out - I felt contaminated when I first noticed it and am afraid of water changes. blinky peek a boo

It almost looks like a type of chicken pocks!! I would kinda be freaked out to do water changes as well, just make sure you wear gloves!! blinky

Chicken pox is what I thought when I got to looking at it. Nasty!

I had my bare hand in the tank before I noticed anything was wrong. I have got to get some gloves.

That's something Derek would do but the two you .............????????????????

BTW, I have never seen anything like it before. Good thing you got it under control right away. Good Job

Aura, I haven't a clue what it might be other than ich. Perhaps it appears off colour because of the pigment of the catfish???

I would go a full 10 days with the Quick Cure at half strength, and do alot of water changes!

These spots seemed bigger than what ich that I've seen in the past looked like, but it makes sense that it could vary.

Whatever it is, it came and went very quickly. I'm continuing the treatment - all looks well.

I've been doing the water changes without gloves (Klaus) because I can't find anything long enough. ~shudder~

Aura, any recurrence of the dreaded yellow fish pox?

No more yellow bumps!

They seemed to "groom" them off of each other and then I never saw another one. blinky

Thanks for asking. Wiggle it just a little bit!
