I thought these guys were never going to do the deed. The males have been ready for months, not so with the females.
I have two pairs, in two different tanks, and both pairs spawned within 2 days of each other.
Here's Mom # 1, but I missed the actual spawn:

And here are some pics of the other pair in the other tank actually spawning:

And the look the male gave me after I snapped a couple of pics was absolutely priceless!

Wonder what he was saying???

Now how does that happen? Just a coincidence? I've seen the same thing with my tanks on occasion.
Is your male normally that light color? At first glance I thought I was looking at one of cturner's polits. fishy
I like that last picture - it reminds me of the picture I posted a couple of weeks ago of my acei with a very guilty, caught in the act, expression on his face.

I think the flash was scaring her off, and he was saying "Look lady, I've been trying to get this job done for months, could you back off with the camera?" Giggly
The male went almost white while spawning...And goodness I didn't realize how ugly that poor female was until her mouth was full to bursting!

Aura, he's normally a dark blue with blood red sides to him - they are the Mpanga Reds...At first glance I thought the female was spawning with the wrong male!
I don't usually "pair" fish off. I got these all at the same time from Darius, they were all about the same size and I guess they just managed to all mature at the same time. I had to separate the males, I've been trying to find a new home for one of them, but if I'd left them together they would have already killed each other...Very aggressive fish, I dread seeing how they are when full grown.

Really interesting shots, Kim. And I do love that "Do I shine a flashlight on you guys without asking?" look. Giggly

Yeah, he was a little ticked off at me...Actually that "look" kind of put me in my place... Giggly
I think he got a little rough on the female after the spawn, she doesn't seem to be holding as many, if any, now. The other one still has a mouthfull, so that's good!
